ISSN / eISSN

Aims and Scope
The Canadian Geotechnical Journal features articles, notes, reviews, and discussions related to new developments in geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering, and applied sciences. The topics of papers written by researchers and engineers/scientists active in industry include soil and rock mechanics, material properties and fundamental behaviour, site characterization, foundations, excavations, tunnels, dams and embankments, slopes, landslides, geological and rock engineering, ground improvement, hydrogeology and contaminant hydrogeology, geochemistry, waste management, geosynthetics, offshore engineering, ice, frozen ground and northern engineering, risk and reliability applications, and physical and numerical modelling.

Contributions that have practical relevance are preferred, including case records. Purely theoretical contributions are not generally published unless they are on a topic of special interest (like unsaturated soil mechanics or cold regions geotechnics) or they have direct practical value.

The level of articles in the Canadian Geotechnical Journal used to be really high, but at some point, I don't know when, this journal became a watering hole for some big shots. Now the level of this journal is really low, and it can't be compared to Geotechnique and the Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering under ASCE. When submitting a paper, there were three reviewers, and only one of them reviewed it seriously. Firstly, they acknowledged the paper's novelty but had doubts about the simplification of the model. They requested a detailed description of the modeling process and recommended major revisions. The other two were simply ridiculous, they didn't even bother to read the paper seriously. They probably only looked at the authors' names and affiliations and wanted to reject the paper. Their reviewing attitude is simply unbelievable for reviewers of the Canadian Geotechnical Journal. None of their suggestions hit the core of the paper.

I published an article at the beginning of this year, but this journal can't be compared to Geotechnique and ASCE-JGGE. However, now there are several other journals with a large number of submissions. The Canadian Geotechnical Journal is also doing well, so it can be considered relatively difficult to get published in.
