Aims and Scope
Frontiers in Earth Science is an open-access journal that aims to bring together and publish on a single platform the best research dedicated to our planet.

This platform hosts the rapidly growing and continuously expanding domains in Earth Science, involving the lithosphere (including the geosciences spectrum), the hydrosphere (including marine geosciences and hydrology, complementing the existing Frontiers journal on Marine Science) and the atmosphere (including meteorology and climatology). As such, Frontiers in Earth Science focuses on the countless processes operating within and among the major spheres constituting our planet. In turn, the understanding of these processes provides the theoretical background to better use the available resources and to face the major environmental challenges (including earthquakes, tsunamis, eruptions, floods, landslides, climate changes, extreme meteorological events): this is where interdependent processes meet, requiring a holistic view to better live on and with our planet.

The journal welcomes outstanding contributions in any domain of Earth Science.

The open-access model developed by Frontiers offers a fast, efficient, timely and dynamic alternative to traditional publication formats. The journal has 20 specialty sections at the first tier, each acting as an independent journal with a full editorial board. The traditional peer-review process is adapted to guarantee fairness and efficiency using a thorough paperless process, with real-time author-reviewer-editor interactions, collaborative reviewer mandates to maximize quality, and reviewer disclosure after article acceptance. While maintaining a rigorous peer-review, this system allows for a process whereby accepted articles are published online on average 90 days after submission.

General Commentary articles as well as Book Reviews in Frontiers in Earth Science are only accepted upon invitation.

Wait and see. In my first article, I received replies from reviewers 1 and 3 first, and reviewer 2 was the slowest. After waiting for a reply from reviewer 2, Xiao Xiu was successfully hired. The second article was more complicated. The first two reviewers rejected it, and there was a change in the editor. Later, two additional reviewers were assigned, making a total of five reviewers. Fortunately, reviewers 3 and 4 accepted it, but reviewer 5 never replied. So I emailed the editorial department, and they responded quickly, saying they would follow up. If there was still no response, they would remove reviewer 5. After removing reviewer 5, the new editor, who was previously in charge, made language edits for me. I made revisions quickly, which surprised him with my speed. He promised to carefully review my article again and said that the ultimate decision-making power lies with him. This made me very anxious. In the end, my article was successfully accepted.

Anyway, as long as you are willing to pay, this journal accepts articles with a decent quality. They will arrange other reviewers to accept your article if the previous ones reject it. For someone like me, who is not an academic expert and just wants to graduate, this journal is considered conscientious. Generally, it takes about 3 months for an article to be accepted. My first article was lucky and was accepted in one month. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask.

I have been serving as an editor for this journal for a long time now. The journal has a decent reputation in the open-source community and is listed in the third zone of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Our usual speed of review and handling is also acceptable. As long as we can find suitable reviewers, the initial review can be completed within two weeks, and the average acceptance cycle is about one month. However, when submitting manuscripts, it is important to pay attention to the theme, plagiarism check, formatting, language, and other issues. Do not get rejected due to these basic problems and waste time. If there are any questions, feel free to contact me via WeChat at scipersistence.
