Aims and Scope

The International Journal of Coal Geology deals with fundamental and applied aspects of the geology and petrology of coal, oil/gas source rocks and shale gas resources. The journal aims to advance the exploration, exploitation and utilization of these resources, and to stimulate environmental awareness as well as advancement of engineering for effective resource management.

Coal geology has been on a decline, and they have replaced the chief editor with someone who specializes in coal. The level feels average, and they are not friendly. The assessment of articles heavily relies on the reviewers, and they receive a significant number of articles from acquaintances, but the quality is mediocre. Perhaps to maintain a high impact factor, the number of published articles has drastically decreased in the past two years, but this is not a long-term solution. The number of influential articles is decreasing, and good articles are being submitted to other journals.

Submitted in April, results come out in June, one major revision, one minor revision. The editor rejected the submission, but encouraged resubmission. Based on the revision comments, diligently made revisions for two months. In September, chose the same editor to submit again. Three months after submission, the editor returned the submission, surprisingly citing the reason of not being able to find appropriate reviewers.
