Aims and Scope
Hydrology and Earth System Sciences (HESS) is a not-for-profit international two-stage open-access journal for the publication of original research in hydrology. HESS encourages and supports fundamental and applied research that advances the understanding of hydrological systems, their role in providing water for ecosystems and society, and the role of the water cycle in the functioning of the Earth system. A multi-disciplinary approach is encouraged that broadens the hydrological perspective and the advancement of hydrological science through integration with other cognate sciences and cross-fertilization across disciplinary boundaries.

Second HESS acceptance. The first paper took six months from submission to acceptance, while the second paper took seven months. The reviewers were all very professional, and their comments were very helpful in improving the paper. The editor was also very responsible and made significant improvements to the language after acceptance. I would like to express my gratitude for that. Personally, I believe that this journal is second only to WRR in the field of hydrology and water resources. It has a strong grasp of innovation, which is why I chose to give it a try. The experience I would like to share is that after the first round of open review, it is important to carefully respond to and modify each comment. It is not enough to simply say that the revisions will be made in the next version. This gives the editor a serious impression and increases the chances of a major revision instead of outright rejection. My next goal is to aim for WRR. Let's keep up the good work! Good luck, mom of two kids!

Recently I carefully read several articles on HESS. The quality of these articles is not inferior to WRR. Chinese submissions are much fewer compared to JOH. I casually checked this journal and found that the article with the highest citation in SCI history, with 2.8 million citations, is right here. Instantly, my respect for this journal has multiplied. I hope to publish an article in this journal in the future!
