Article

Commented on Ultra-processed food consumption and obesity in adolescents
A very interesting study. Can be biased due to the convenience sampling and cannot be generalized. I do wonder how results would vary with a different sampling method and how this has altered with the pandemic. Solid study that can be looked into further.

Article

Commented on The longitudinal relationship of school climate with adolescent social and emotional health
Structure and support. We can all speak on our personal experiences. With teachers and mentors that supported us and disciplined us in a structured manner goes a long way for our social and emotional health. This was also great where analysis extended to a lot of different dependent variables.

Commented on The correlation between sleep quality and performance in football athlete
I am guessing these results would be consistent with athletes in different sports? I am curious if there would be any differences, but seems well known what sleep can do :)

Commented on Caffeine Improves Basketball Performance in Experienced Basketball Players
I wonder if the basketball players were used to caffeine consumption. I think more players in the simulation could make a difference in the findings since there were only 20 players. Very interesting to see the after effects as well and how that could affect performance in the following days.

Commented on Food Parenting Topics in Social Media Posts: Development of a Coding System, Examination of Frequency of Food Parenting Concepts, and Comparison across Reddit and Facebook
A prime example of research findings that can be gathered through social media sites. I know Twitter has been a place for a lot of research. Great to see what can be found on Reddit and Facebook. It would help to have a coding system then you can gather what is being discussed and do outreach focused on that. Communicating with user and mining data will help to guide further research.

Article

Commented on The role of music therapy in Australian mental health services and the need for increased access to service users
I do not see opinion papers out there explicitly, but this is a very interesting paper to further research or provide a review of more of the evidence that this paper talks on the surface about.

Article

Commented on The Beneficial Effects of Principal Polyphenols from Green Tea, Coffee, Wine, and Curry on Obesity
A very interesting review especially when we know generally of the benefits of these products. Helpful to see the consistency or inconsistency of the actual benefits of these micronutrients. This may go to show more studies may be needed with a small number of studies included in the review to confirm further.

Article

Commented on Risk Associated with the Use of Selected Ingredients in Food Supplements
Good review especially with how vast the supplement industry is and when there is no regulation, it is important to note ingredients that have not been tested and can have potential negative effects.

Commented on Self-Reported Experiences of Discrimination and Health: Scientific Advances, Ongoing Controversies, and Emerging Issues
This explains the challenges in measuring these events of discrimination and negative experiences. Getting perspective from people or patients is critical whether it be in a quantitative or qualitative sense. It is clear with the association with mental health outcomes and important for research and policy development. We have to know what people are experiencing. They cannot be ignored.
