Summary: Sepsis-induced myocardial dysfunction (SIMD) is a serious global health problem and its mechanisms are not fully understood. Recent studies have shown that the NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome plays an important role in the pathophysiology of SIMD by regulating various biological processes such as inflammation, autophagy, apoptosis, and pyroptosis. Several molecular specific inhibitors of NLRP3 inflammasome have shown promising anti-inflammatory effects in cellular or animal models of SIMD, indicating that NLRP3 inflammasome could be a potential therapeutic target for SIMD treatment. However, further in vivo and preclinical trials are needed before the clinical translation of NLRP3 inhibitors for treating SIMD.
