Aims and Scope
The Journal of Cleaner Production serves as a transdisciplinary, international forum for the exchange of information and research concepts, policies, and technologies designed to help ensure progress towards making societies and regions more sustainable. It aims to encourage innovation and creativity, new and improved products, and the implementation of new, cleaner structures, systems, processes, products and services. It is also designed to stimulate the development and implementation of prevention oriented governmental policies and educational programmes.

Cleaner production is a concept that goes beyond simple pollution control. It involves active research and development into new structures, systems, processes, materials and products that are more resource and energy efficient, whilst engaging and empowering people. Such approaches have become necessary for businesses, institutions, governments, and civil society to ensure ecologically, socially, and economically sustainable, consumption production and service strategies. These involve educational, training, management, and technical assistance programs, which are needed to accelerate the adoption of cleaner production and sustainability by industries, governments and universities.

Verified Reviews

Encountering some unusual circumstances, I deliberately logged in to provide feedback to everyone.

In terms of geographical direction, there were five reviewers. In the first round, there were four minor revisions and one negative comment. After a major revision, the negative reviewer turned positive. Following two more rounds of minor revisions, all experts agreed to publish.

A turning point occurred when the editor asked to change the domain email of the corresponding author's institution. After changing it back, I thought I would receive it, but inexplicably, the editor was changed again and replaced by Professor Bi Jun from Nanjing University. After half a month with the new editor, it was unexpectedly sent for review again (after all experts agreed to publish, the editor was changed and sent for review again).

I thought it was another completely new review, and anxiously waited for a month, but it was still accepted. Upon reading the acceptance email, I realized it was still the first editor and the reviewers from the previous round of review. It seemed inexplicably delayed for an additional month. I don't know if there was a system problem or something before, but the final result was good.

Submitted in December 2021, accepted in November 2022, with three rounds of revisions and five reviewers, the quality of the article has indeed been improved.

Overall, the JCLP journal has been downgraded to Zone 2, but the impact factor has exceeded ten, so there are pros and cons.

I received a lot of help from the comments on LetPub about the journal I submitted to, so I wanted to share the situation I encountered with everyone and accumulate good luck for the next article.

I hope everyone can successfully submit to their desired journal.

I have previously published an article in Clean Production, and at that time, both the chief editor and the editor were foreigners. I felt that their efficiency was very high and they processed manuscripts quickly. However, I have also encountered two Chinese editors, Yutao Wang as the chief editor and Zhifu Mi as the deputy editor. Yutao Wang, as the chief editor, was very slow in processing the manuscript, taking about 3 weeks to handle it. The submitted manuscript was within the journal's scope, but Yutao Wang's reason for the delay was: "Some factors entering into this decision include scope, depth of research work, originality, adherence to journal guidelines, scope being limited to local interest, and length limits." Overall, I feel that this chief editor is not very responsible and not very friendly towards Chinese authors. I wonder if they are also in this state when handling foreign manuscripts. At this stage, as I submit more manuscripts, I gradually feel that if I can choose an editor, I must choose a foreign one. At least the personal relationships are not as significant, and they usually send the manuscript for review and seek the opinions of reviewers in areas they are not familiar with. However, domestic editors generally do not consider these factors. This submission experience was not very pleasant, but fortunately, Clean Production has been included in the second tier, so it can be considered a blessing in disguise.
