Summary: A Phi value analysis was conducted on BRD2(2) to investigate its folding pathway, revealing that the C-terminal region serves as the initial folding nucleus, with the N-terminal region consolidating its structure later in the process. This indicates a hierarchical mechanism of protein folding with non-native interactions playing a significant role.

Summary: Tris-bipyridine iron (II) triflate was synthesized and used as an active species in a symmetric disproportionation redox-flow-battery chemistry without a supporting electrolyte. Cyclic voltammetry was used to characterize the coordination complex salt solution (0.1 M in acetonitrile). The full-cell charge/discharge cycling and impedance testing were performed in reactors with a porous Daramic 175 separator membrane. The system exhibited over 800 cycles and achieved more than 80% round-trip energy efficiency.

Summary: DegP is an oligomeric protein with dual protease and chaperone activity that regulates protein homeostasis and virulence factor trafficking in gram-negative bacteria. Different oligomeric states are adopted by DegP to facilitate its function, with resting hexamers formed when not engaged to substrates and cage or bowl-like structures formed when bound to substrates, leading to increased proteolytic activity. The self-assembly mechanism of apo-DegP involves an ensemble of oligomeric states mediated by self-assembly of trimers, which can shift towards larger oligomeric assemblies under physiological conditions to respond to biological insults.

Summary: The spontaneous formation of a protein corona on a nanoparticle surface plays a crucial role in the success or failure of synthetic nanoparticles as drug carriers or imaging agents in vivo. Understanding protein-nanoparticle interactions quantitatively is essential for the development of nanoparticle-based therapeutics. Solution nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is a powerful tool for monitoring protein competitive binding in complex serum media, providing insights into binding thermodynamics and kinetics in the nanoparticle corona.

Summary: Water-mediated interactions (WMIs) play essential roles in molecular biology, especially in geometrically confined spaces. Nanoscopic confinement preferentially stabilizes the helical state of peptides with hydrophobic side chains, while the nature of the nanotube influences helix formation in peptides with hydrophilic side chains due to WMIs.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of initial pH value on the isothermal adsorption of Reactive Black 5 dye on powdered activated carbon. The results showed that the initial pH value significantly affected the adsorption of RB5 dye onto activated carbon, with the highest adsorption capacities and decolouration efficiencies observed at pH(0) = 2.00 and 10.00.

Summary: The pretreatment of cathode material before leaching is crucial in the hydro-metallurgical recycling of spent lithium-ion batteries. Research shows that in-situ reduction pretreatment can significantly improve the leaching efficiencies for valuable metals from cathodes. Calcination under 600 degrees C without oxygen using alkali treated cathode can induce in-situ reduction and collapse of the oxygen framework, leading to efficient leaching without external reductants. Characterization methods reveal that the high valence metals such as Ni3+, Co3+, and Mn4+ can be effectively reduced to lower valence states during in-situ reduction, facilitating subsequent leaching reactions. The proposed integral recovery process demonstrates increased benefits with negligible cost increase.

Summary: Transcription initiation is tightly regulated by promoter sequence, transcription factors, and ligands. Known transcription inhibitors act during initiation. The study found that the productive initiation complex is I3 instead of RPO at all temperatures, and stepwise disruption of RNAP-strand contacts occurs as the hybrid grows and translocates.

Summary: This study analyzed molecular dynamics simulations of Aβ peptide using different force fields to study its structure and dynamics, providing answers to important questions related to Aβ, such as suitable force fields for modeling, the actual appearance of Aβ peptide, and the time required for MD simulations to reach equilibrium. The analyses presented in this study will serve as a useful reference guide for understanding the behavior of Aβ peptide and other similar disordered proteins.

Summary: This study provides a quantitative characterization of the folding pathway of the C-terminal SH2 domain of SHP2. The folding reaction of the C-SH2 domain is described by a three-state mechanism with two transition states and a high-energy intermediate. The presence of a hydrophobic folding nucleus in the early events of folding is observed, which becomes more stable as the reaction progresses towards the native state. Residues in the functional region of the domain exhibit unusual folding behavior.
