Summary: The study showed that functional bread fortified with microencapsulated flaxseed oil, garlic oil, and a combination of both had beneficial health effects, including enhanced human health performance and prevention from life-threatening diseases. The bread demonstrated good oxidative stability and quality characteristics, with the hybrid micro capsules proving to have advantages over the individual oils in terms of TBA value and color change. Additionally, sensory evaluation indicated high acceptability throughout the storage period.

Summary: Flaxseed oil is associated with the prevention and reduction of several serious diseases, mainly due to its omega-3 fatty acid content. However, factors like pH, temperature, oxygen, and light can limit the incorporation of omega-3 fatty acids into various food products. The development of microencapsulation techniques has allowed for the design of flaxseed oil-enriched food products to overcome these limitations, ensuring better stability and bioavailability of active compounds.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of quercetin on the performance and oxidative stress biomarkers of broiler chickens. The results showed that optimized quercetin tended to improve the total body weight gain and final body weight of broiler chickens. Furthermore, the addition of optimized quercetin reduced the negative effects of oxidized lipid by-products associated with flaxseed oil diets in chicken livers.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the thermal properties of selected cultivars of flaxseed oil using the DSC technique. Findings revealed characteristics of crystallization and melting profiles, as well as the influence of temperature and heating rate on the stability of flaxseed oil during thermal oxidation. Negative correlations were observed between unsaturated fatty acid content and thermal properties.

Summary: Consumption of high fat diet leads to oxidative stress in the brain, resulting in cognitive impairment and memory deficit. However, treatment with krill oil (KO) can attenuate oxidative stress and improve cognitive function, indicating its potential as a therapeutic agent for HFD-induced cognitive impairment.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the impact of essential oils (EOs) on in vitro gas formation and the degradability of dairy and beef cattle diets. The results showed that the addition of EOs had a significant effect on gas production and improved the digestibility of dry matter and crude protein. EOs also increased the degradability and soluble fraction of the diets.

Summary: The study evaluated the retrograded starch obtained from Negro Jamapa beans as a potential functional ingredient for improving glucose homeostasis in a diabetic animal model. The obtained ingredient had reduced digestibility compared to native starch and showed promising results in lowering postprandial glucose levels, improving weight gain, insulin resistance, and oxidative stress status in diabetic animals. These findings suggest the potential of this retrograded starch as a functional ingredient for managing glucose metabolism.

Summary: This study investigates the oxidation relationship between Linusorbs (LOs), methionine sulfoxide (MetO), and tryptophan (Trp) in flaxseed oil, as well as the impact of antioxidants. The results show that LOs containing Trp are less sensitive to oxidation compared to LOs containing Met. L-AP exhibits superior antioxidant effects on both Trp-containing and non-Trp-containing LOs, while alpha- and gamma-tocopherols have prooxidative effects on Trp-containing LOs.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of an essential fatty acid (EFA) supplement containing specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs) on retinal degeneration and microglia activation in a mouse model of RP. The EFA supplement improved retinal function, reduced inflammation and microglia activation, and reduced oxidative stress markers. These findings suggest that oral supplementation with SPMs such as the EFA supplement could be a potential therapeutic approach for resolving inflammation in RP.

Summary: Collectrin is a chaperone of amino acid transporters in the kidney and endothelium and its knockout leads to hypertension and renal dysfunction. PT-specific collectrin knockout mice show hypertension and altered expression of NHE3, but not increased salt sensitivity or reduced renal blood flow. In HCHS/SOL participants, there are sex-specific associations between TMEM27 polymorphisms and diastolic blood pressure. Loss of collectrin in the PT can induce hypertension through activation of NHE3 and altered renal blood flow may be a determining factor for salt sensitivity.
