JOURNAL OF BIOMECHANICS

J BIOMECH

ISSN / eISSN
0021-9290 / 1873-2380
Aims and Scope
The Journal of Biomechanics publishes reports of original and substantial findings using the principles of mechanics to explore biological problems. Analytical, as well as experimental papers may be submitted, and the journal accepts original articles, surveys and perspective articles (usually by Editorial invitation only), book reviews and letters to the Editor. The criteria for acceptance of manuscripts include excellence, novelty, significance, clarity, conciseness and interest to the readership.

Papers published in the journal may cover a wide range of topics in biomechanics, including, but not limited to:

-Fundamental Topics - Biomechanics of the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems, mechanics of hard and soft tissues, biofluid mechanics, mechanics of prostheses and implant-tissue interfaces, mechanics of cells.
-Cardiovascular and Respiratory Biomechanics - Mechanics of blood-flow, air-flow, mechanics of the soft tissues, flow-tissue or flow-prosthesis interactions.
-Cell Biomechanics - Biomechanic analyses of cells, membranes and sub-cellular structures; the relationship of the mechanical environment to cell and tissue response.
-Dental Biomechanics - Design and analysis of dental tissues and prostheses, mechanics of chewing.
-Functional Tissue Engineering - The role of biomechanical factors in engineered tissue replacements and regenerative medicine.
-Injury Biomechanics - Mechanics of impact and trauma, dynamics of man-machine interaction.
-Molecular Biomechanics - Mechanical analyses of biomolecules.
-Orthopedic Biomechanics - Mechanics of fracture and fracture fixation, mechanics of implants and implant fixation, mechanics of bones and joints, wear of natural and artificial joints.
-Rehabilitation Biomechanics - Analyses of gait, mechanics of prosthetics and orthotics.
-Sports Biomechanics - Mechanical analyses of sports performance.

I happened to catch up with the internal transition of the journal with this article, which took a long time. It was submitted on August 4th, 2019 and accepted on May 28th, 2020. During this period, it went through a major revision and was reviewed by two reviewers. One reviewer accepted it directly, while the other, possibly a junior colleague, raised some sharp questions. The editorial department only provided one opportunity for revision, stating that if the modifications were done well, it would be accepted; otherwise, it would be rejected. My advisor felt like giving up, but I really wanted to publish in a top journal like this. Finally, after putting in a lot of effort, it passed. I suggest not only focusing on the impact factor, as this year's impact factor indicates that it may be artificially manipulatable. It's better to consult your advisor or experienced researchers in your field to determine which journals are more recognized.

Both reviewers agreed to accept the revised manuscript after two months of major revisions. However, a third reviewer rejected it after making a few trivial comments. They claimed that a certain sentence in a paragraph had grammatical issues, along with a few minor problems. The whole process took six months. I am determined and seriously suspect that the opinions of the third reviewer were written by the editor themselves. It is also possible that my skills were not sufficient and I didn't refine it well enough. I have now submitted the article to another journal, and if there is good news, I will come back to comment.
