Summary: The article presents the first geospatial inventory of regulatory information about 1177 wine PDO in Europe, based on official EU geographical indication register documents. This inventory includes crucial legal information such as geographic boundaries, authorized cultivars, and maximum yields, enabling researchers to accurately assess, compare, and map the regulatory information in each wine region. It supports decision makers in developing adaptation strategies for the preservation of PDO wine regions.

Summary: This paper reviews the methods to trace the geographical origin of cocoa beans and classify cocoa or chocolate based on specific quality attributes. The integration of instrumental and sensory attributes is important to establish robust geographical indications. There is a need for a more rapid and non-destructive analytical approach to modernize traditional traceability methods.

Summary: The study provides a classification of European consumers based on logo awareness and finds that logo-aware consumers have distinct demographic, human capital, and socio-economic characteristics, as well as behavioral and attitudinal traits. The effects of country and region are vital in understanding consumer behavior related to protected designation of origin products.

Summary: The value of Geographical Indications (GIs) to consumers is compared to leading manufacturer's brands in a study of sausages in Hungary, with results showing that GIs can generate higher consumer value. However, consumers' taste preferences may not align with GI specifications. The study also identifies two consumer segments, with the majority valuing the GI label and a minority being brand conscious.

Summary: The study shows that PDOs strongly overlap with environmental and cultural values, and are more frequent in economically weaker, older, and declining population areas. Additionally, different product categories have varying degrees of correlation with environmental values, providing valuable information for the sustainable transformation of EU agriculture.

Summary: The study classified 183 PDO honeys from three regions in Spain using ED-XRF elemental profiles and successfully differentiated honey without PDO from El Bierzo. Manganese content served as a discriminant marker between Liebana PDO and El Bierzo, which could also be distinguished from each other. The developed models displayed unique elemental profiles among different regions and varieties.

Summary: In this article, the authors reconceptualize the intellectual property regimes that support geographical indications (GIs) as 'knowledge commons'. They discuss how geographical names can be considered part of the public domain but can also be appropriated through trademark registration. The analysis suggests that IP laws supporting GIs emerged in Europe and spread worldwide as a response to the threat of private confiscation through trademark registration.

Summary: This review focuses on the DNA-based techniques for authenticating probiotic, PDO, and PGI fermented foods and beverages. The specific DNA markers of microorganisms have been used for authentication, and advanced detection tools such as propidium monoazide (PMA) real-time PCR and DNA-based lab-on-a-chips are promising for on-time and quantitative detection. PCR-DGGE and metagenomics combined with PMA are valuable for fingerprinting microbial communities and detecting mislabeled species. These methods need to be combined with PMA, culturomics, or flow cytometry for enumeration of viable microorganisms.

Summary: This study evaluates the drivers of eco-innovation in the olive oil production sector, finding that large olive oil cooperatives have a strong commitment to sustainability and that cooperation with a wider range of agents encourages eco-innovation, particularly among smaller firms. However, belonging to a protected designation of origin (PDO) has a limiting effect on the implementation of eco-innovative measures in the sector.

Summary: This study explores the reasons for the varying impacts of climate change on different countries and the heterogeneities in mitigating climate change. The research found that heterogeneous assemblies are less able to collectively provide public goods, and suggests that emphasizing reciprocity may improve collective action. Additionally, the study introduces a methodological innovation of using machine learning to classify players based on their conditional contribution behavior.

Summary: This paper explores issues of representativeness and participation in the processes of elaborating geographical indications (GI) specifications and governance of GI initiatives, comparing the producer-led approach in France with the state-driven approach in Vietnam through six case studies. Different understandings and implementations of representativeness are shaped by legal frameworks, with negotiations among stakeholders in France and a consultative role for local stakeholders under state authority in Vietnam. Opportunities for fairness and empowerment vary between the two approaches.

Summary: This study explores the relationship between the structural characteristics and production decisions of a geographical indication (GI) group and prices and marketing margins. The findings suggest that the number of GI operators is more related to consumption prices, while GI age is not associated with higher consumption prices. Additionally, higher farmers' olive/oil conversion rate is linked to lower prices, while greater vertical integration is related to higher origin prices and a higher share of marketing margins going to producers.

Summary: The study found that consumers perceive wild fish to taste better and be more nutritious, but consider farmed fish to be cheaper, safer, and more ethical. Factors such as fish preference, attitude, and subjective knowledge affect consumers' intention to purchase. Providing accurate information strategies is crucial for promoting the consumption of farmed fish.

Summary: This paper proposes a framework that examines the impact of smallholder farmers' participation in value chain partnerships on agri-food systems resilience. It finds that partnerships are more effective in supporting smallholder farmers' entrepreneurial learning when they pool more resources among partners, distribute decision-making rights, and balance formal and informal coordination mechanisms.

Summary: Population increase and food production have negative impacts on the environment, leading international organizations to focus on more environmentally friendly and alternative protein products. Edible insects might be one of those alternatives. While common in some places, the practice of eating insects has been traditionally shunned in others, such as European countries. However, in the past decade, there has been growing interest and significant progress in the research on edible insects from both the public and private sectors.

Summary: The years in university bring about significant changes in students' dietary patterns. Factors such as limited time, financial constraints, and lack of dietary information pose barriers to healthy eating. Possible strategies to promote healthier diets among university students include diversifying food options in canteens, providing facilities for students to prepare and consume home-cooked meals, offering student discounts at supermarkets, and providing information on nutrition and healthy eating.

Summary: This study sheds new light on the "attitude-behaviour gap" among European consumers in relation to Food Quality Schemes (FQS). Through ethnographic fieldwork data from 41 households in seven European countries, the study reveals that consumers exhibit different levels of engagement with FQS in their everyday food practices. The co-existence of multiple regimes of engagement highlights a dynamic and evolving process of adjustment in how consumers understand and interact with FQS.

Summary: This study provides empirical evidence on the drivers affecting Norwegian salmon consumption in three European countries using the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB). It highlights the effects of positive and negative information about the sustainability of salmon farming on consumers' perceptions and behavior. The study confirms the role of attitudes in affecting consumers' intentions and shows that negative information has a stronger impact on attitudes and intentions compared to positive information.

The theory of planned behavior was used to develop an online survey, and the results showed significant associations between attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control with both intention and behavior assessments. The applied TPB models explained behavioral intention at most (78%) and suggested interventions to encourage virtuous food consumption habits in Italy.

Summary: Consumers' lack of knowledge about fish production methods leads to skepticism and confusion when purchasing fish. Objective and subjective knowledge both influence attitudes towards wild and farmed fish, but only subjective knowledge has an impact on the intention to purchase wild fish. The intention to purchase is correlated with fish purchasing frequency, and information about production methods affects consumers' attitudes but not their purchasing intentions. This study provides insights for policymakers and producer associations/industries to develop communication campaigns on fish production methods and improve transparency and acceptance of aquaculture products.
