This paper explores the impact of individual group members' heterogeneous characteristics, resources and strategies on their level of cooperation on defining the future regulation of Geographical Indications (GIs). By following a grounded theory approach, this study combines qualitative evidence from an in-depth study on the Prosciutto di Parma Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Consortium with quantitative evidence based on data collected from 94 Consortium members and analysed through path modelling. Results confirm that (1) Prosciutto di Parma Consortium members have highly and increasingly heterogeneous characteristics, assets and strategies and that (2) higher heterogeneity negatively affects members' agreement on the future level of restrictiveness of Prosciutto di Parma PDO as Gland therefore the effectiveness of the collective action. Overall, these findings give light to another internal barrier that may threaten producers' opportunity of profiting from the use of established and highly recognized GIs. Managerial and policy implications for both Prosciutto di Parma Consortium members and other groups governing established and highly recognized GIs are drawn. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. Exploring the Future of Edible Insects in Europe

Simone Mancini, Giovanni Sogari, Salomon Espinosa Diaz, Davide Menozzi, Gisella Paci, Roberta Moruzzo

Summary: Population increase and food production have negative impacts on the environment, leading international organizations to focus on more environmentally friendly and alternative protein products. Edible insects might be one of those alternatives. While common in some places, the practice of eating insects has been traditionally shunned in others, such as European countries. However, in the past decade, there has been growing interest and significant progress in the research on edible insects from both the public and private sectors.

European food quality schemes in everyday food consumption: An exploration of sayings and doings through pragmatic regimes of engagement

Amilien Virginie, Discetti Roberta, Lecoeur Jean-Loup, Roos Gun, Tocco Barbara, Gorton Matthew, Biasini Beatrice, Menozzi Davide, Matthieu Duboys de Labarre, Filipovic Jelena, Meyer Kathrin, Torok Aron, Veljkovic Sasa, Wavresky Pierre, Haugronning Vilde, Csillag Peter, Simons Johannes, Ognjanov Galjina

Summary: This study sheds new light on the "attitude-behaviour gap" among European consumers in relation to Food Quality Schemes (FQS). Through ethnographic fieldwork data from 41 households in seven European countries, the study reveals that consumers exhibit different levels of engagement with FQS in their everyday food practices. The co-existence of multiple regimes of engagement highlights a dynamic and evolving process of adjustment in how consumers understand and interact with FQS.

The role of objective and subjective knowledge on the attitude and intention of Italian consumers to purchase farmed and wild fish

Davide Menozzi, Rungsaran Wongprawmas, Giovanni Sogari, Francesco Gai, Giuliana Parisi, Cristina Mora

Summary: Consumers' lack of knowledge about fish production methods leads to skepticism and confusion when purchasing fish. Objective and subjective knowledge both influence attitudes towards wild and farmed fish, but only subjective knowledge has an impact on the intention to purchase wild fish. The intention to purchase is correlated with fish purchasing frequency, and information about production methods affects consumers' attitudes but not their purchasing intentions. This study provides insights for policymakers and producer associations/industries to develop communication campaigns on fish production methods and improve transparency and acceptance of aquaculture products.
