Summary: Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction is a powerful method to construct carbon-carbon bonds and is widely used in the synthesis of functional organic compounds. In this study, zeolite-encased Pd particles (Pd@MFI) were successfully prepared and investigated as promising heterogeneous catalysts for the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction. The Pd@MFI catalysts showed high activity, with dispersed Pd particles efficiently stabilized within the MFI zeolite matrix. The presence of basic sites adjacent to Pd sites was crucial for achieving high catalytic activity.

Summary: Palladium has been widely used in the Suzuki-Miyaura cross coupling reaction for over 30 years, but it comes with drawbacks such as high cost, tedious work-ups, product contamination, and metal leaching. In recent years, other metals like Ni, Cu, Co, Fe, Rh, and Ru have attracted attention for their potential in SMCR, allowing for the synthesis of industrially important compounds with various functional groups. This review discusses recent advancements in catalysis related to SMCR, providing valuable insights for researchers in designing synthetic protocols for pharmacophores and drug molecules.

Summary: This study presents a new method for adding two different nucleophiles to the carbonyl carbon of an amide in a single step, leading to the conversion of amides to chiral alcohols. The use of non-precious-metal catalysis enables this one-pot process, potentially allowing for the development of new transformations converting carboxylic acid derivatives to functional groups with stereogenic centers.

Summary: A green protocol for the in situ synthesis of Pd nanoparticles on chitosan beads (Pd NPs-CS) without toxic reducing agents was reported. The Pd nanoparticles catalyst was prepared by a simple coordination reaction between chitosan beads and palladium ions. The Pd NPs-CS catalyst showed high catalytic activity and selectivity in Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction and Heck reaction, with the bead form of the catalyst easily separated from the reaction mixture.

Summary: This study reports the design, synthesis, and application of naturally occurring cellulose from agro waste pomegranate peel as a novel support for active biogenic Pd nanoparticles for Suzuki-Miyaura and Sonogashira cross-coupling reactions at room temperature. The cellulose matrix enables well dispersion of Pd nanoparticles over the support to generate Pd@cellulose, exhibiting excellent catalytic activity and recyclability under ligand-free mild reaction conditions. The synthesized cellulose nanofibers and Pd-anchored heterogeneous nanofibers were characterized through various analytical techniques.

Summary: A novel Pd(II)-polymeric pre-catalyst was successfully prepared and demonstrated good activity in the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction. The catalyst showed recyclability and its performance was affected by the concentration of the cross-coupling partners. The presence of oxygen was found to be crucial in preventing the formation of inactive Pd(0) aggregates.

Summary: The synthesis and characterization of phenoxy(imine) iron(II) alkyl precatalysts for C(sp2)-C(sp3) Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction is reported. This method utilizes mild alkoxide bases and nonpolar solvents to achieve high efficiency C(sp2)-C(sp3) bond formation with various aryl boronic esters and alkyl bromides. The study also highlights the compatibility of the precatalysts with base-sensitive functionality and the role of boronate intermediates in transmetalation.

Summary: This study presents a novel synthesis method for the sustainable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly Schiff base-Pd nanomagnetic heterogeneous catalyst (MNP-AF-Pd) decorated on superparamagnetic Fe3O4@SiO2 core-shell magnetic nanoparticles. The synthesized catalyst was characterized using various analytical techniques, including TGA, FT-IR, XRD, XPS, ICP-OES, BET, EDX, VSM, FE-SEM, and HR-TEM. The results demonstrated that the MNP-AF-Pd catalyst exhibited excellent catalytic activity for the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction and degradation of hazardous organic dyes. Moreover, the catalyst can be easily recovered and reused for multiple cycles without significant loss of catalytic activity.

Summary: A series of new para-terphenyl derivatives have been efficiently synthesized using a ligand-free heterogeneous Pd/C-catalyzed two-fold Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction. The structures of the new derivatives were confirmed using several analytical techniques, and they were obtained in very good yields. This synthetic facile route shows potential for improving the preparation of para-terphenyl-based natural products.

Summary: In this study, N-doped graphdiyne was synthesized as the support for metal nanoparticles by bottom-up approach from tetraethynylpyrazine. The specific introduction of pyridine nitrogen atoms in the N-doped carbon material makes it a promising material for supporting ultrafine metal particles or clusters. Microwave-assisted anchoring of Pd, Pt, Cu, Ni nanoparticles on NGDY generated novel hybrid composites with Pd-NGDY showing high versatility for Suzuki-Miyaura reaction.

Summary: In this study, efficient precatalysts for the C(sp(2))-C(sp(3)) Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction between alkyl bromides and neopentylglycol (hetero)arylboronic esters were generated in situ using Cobalt(II) halides in combination with phenoxyimine (FI) ligands. The protocol allowed for efficient C-C bond formation with various nucleophiles and electrophiles. The results also suggested that alkyl radicals play an important role in the catalytic reaction.

Summary: Several mechanochemically heated processes have been published, but precise control over mechanochemical catalysed coupling reactions has been difficult. A recent report demonstrates a programmable jar heater manifold that efficiently enables the Suzuki-Miyaura-type cross coupling reaction of aryl sulfamates and aryl boronic acid species. This methodology can be easily upscaled 200-fold using twin-screw extrusion methodologies.
