Summary: This study investigated the effect of predation by protists on the temperature response of a freshwater microbiome. The researchers found that predation influenced microbial biomass and respiration rate by affecting the bacterial community structure. Interestingly, the presence of predators reduced microbial respiration at elevated temperature.

Summary: Microorganisms have a significant impact on human health, including drug therapy. Pharmacomicrobiomics explores how variations in the microbiome affect the disposition, action, and toxicity of drugs. This field is complemented by toxicomicrobiomics and pharmacoecology, which study the influence of the microbiome on drug metabolism and the changes in microbiome caused by drug administration. This review introduces the concept of drug-infection interaction and analyzes the relevance of microorganisms in the host's response to drugs.

Summary: One goal of microbiome research is to understand the causal relationships behind the emergence of structural and functional traits. However, the complexity of ecosystems has made this difficult. In this study, the kombucha tea microbiome was used as an example to develop a strategy that simplifies complexity and elucidates the compositional and metabolic characteristics of microbiomes.

Summary: This study investigates the associations between fecal microbiota and vaccine response in pigs, indicating that piglets with a richer microbiota exhibit a better immune response after receiving influenza vaccine. Specific microbial taxa are linked to the strength of the immune response to the vaccine.

Summary: This study reveals the bidirectional interaction between DUOX2 and the gut microbiome in contributing to mucosal homeostasis, and their dysregulation may drive disease development. This highlights the potential of targeting the DUOX2-microbiome axis as a therapeutic approach for treating intestinal inflammation.

Summary: VDR plays a crucial role in the biological functions of vitamin D and acts as a transcriptional factor regulating the expression of target genes; Research shows that VDR regulation of intestinal barriers influences health and disease; Understanding the mechanisms by which VDR signaling regulates intestinal barrier functions can help develop efficient therapeutic strategies for human diseases.

Summary: The study found that the oral bioavailability of olanzapine significantly increased in rats with antibiotic-induced depletion of gut microbiota, while the bioavailability of risperidone remained unchanged. Changes in the gut microbiome may influence the pharmacokinetics of olanzapine, with the relative abundance of Alistipes significantly correlated with the AUC of olanzapine.

Summary: Previous studies found that inhibiting a task set is important in task switching. This study explored the impact of stimulus-response (S-R) complexity on inhibition processing. Results showed greater switch costs in difficult conditions and a reversed n-2 repetition cost. This suggests that S-R complexity affects task-set inhibition in task switching.

Summary: With advancing age, changes in the gut microbiota driven by various factors can lead to immune response issues and inflammation, affecting healthy aging. Altering the gut microbiome composition may be a novel intervention strategy to reverse immune aging clock and support overall good health in old age.

Summary: The novel coronavirus has greatly impacted the world with over 72 million cases and 1.6 million deaths, mostly affecting the elderly population. Aging leads to changes in the immune system, making elderly individuals more susceptible to infections and less responsive to vaccines. Understanding age-related immune system changes is crucial for managing infectious diseases like COVID-19.

Summary: Diet-induced gut dysbiosis in mice led to significant alterations in gut microbial diversities, delayed wound healing in high-fat diet group post-corneal injury, and a normalization of wound closure rates after fecal transplantation. Differentially expressed genes were related to response to external stimulus, cell proliferation, migration, adhesion, defense response, and leukocyte migration. Top over-represented pathways included ECM-receptor interaction, Cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction, Focal adhesion, and Leukocyte trans-endothelial migration.
