Tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) are commonly detected in breast tumors but their bearing on disease outcome is uncertain. The importance of TILs appears to be subtype-specific and varies depending on the histologic characteristics of the tumor. As our understanding of tumorigenesis is increasing the relevance of immunobiology will become apparent.

Novel immunotherapeutic drugs for the treatment of lung cancer

Summary: This article reviews new therapies for the treatment of lung cancer that enhance T cell priming, remove coinhibitory signals, supply costimulatory signals, and condition the tumor microenvironment. As more targets for immunotherapy are being studied, designing multimodal strategies for greater effectiveness with lower toxicity will be necessary.

Summary: This study found that older adults in LTCFs experience a rapid decline in antibody titers over the first 6 months after receiving the second dose of the BNT162b2 vaccine. Only individuals with pre-vaccination COVID-19 infection showed a slower rate of antibody decrease.

Alternative splicing events in tumor immune infiltration in renal clear cell carcinomas

Summary: The study developed a prognostic signature based on AS for ccRCC, which was significantly correlated with TIME diversity and ICI-related genes. C4orf19 was identified as a promising prognostic factor in ccRCC. Splicing regulatory networks provide insight into potential functions of AS events related to TIME, contributing to prognosis monitoring of ccRCC.

Identification of an immune gene-associated prognostic signature in patients with bladder cancer

Summary: A prognostic signature for bladder cancer was constructed by analyzing molecular characteristics and tumor-immune interactions. Two immunophenotypes and immunological characteristics were identified, and a 17-immune gene signature was developed as an independent prognostic tool for bladder cancer. Additionally, a nomogram was generated to predict the clinical outcome based on the immune signature and clinical characteristics.

PDGF-R inhibition induces glioblastoma cell differentiation via DUSP1/p38(MAPK) signalling

Summary: This study identifies PDGF-R alpha/beta inhibitor CP-673451 as a potential differentiation agent for GBM. In vitro experiments showed that CP-673451 promotes differentiation of GBM cells and GBM stem cells into neural-like cells, while reducing proliferation and invasion. In vivo experiments demonstrated that CP-673451 enhances the anti-tumor effects of temozolomide. Mechanistically, upregulation of phosphatase DUSP1 and downregulation of phosphorylated-p38(MAPK) may underlie the pro-differentiation effect of CP-673451 on GBM cells.

Neurolymphomatosis of multifocal peripheral nerve involvement: a case report

Summary: Neurolymphomatosis, defined as infiltration of nerve trunks by lymphomatous malignant cells, is a rare condition mainly caused by lymphoma cells directly infiltrating peripheral nerves. A case of primary peripheral neurolymphomatosis in a 77-year-old male patient with CD20+ DLBCL is described, showing a good response to rituximab combined with chemotherapy but ultimately leading to death due to severe lung infection and respiratory failure.

The Inhibitory Properties of a Novel, Selective LMTK3 Kinase Inhibitor

Summary: Recently, the oncogenic role of LMTK3 has been established in different tumors, making it a potential target for cancer therapy. In this study, a highly specific small molecule inhibitor for LMTK3, called C36, was identified and shown to have significant therapeutic effects in cancer cell lines. The binding affinity between LMTK3 and C36 was demonstrated through microscale thermophoresis, and C36 was found to inhibit the activity of LMTK3 by binding to both the ATP- and substrate-binding sites. Treatment with C36 led to decreased proliferation and increased apoptosis in breast cancer cells, highlighting the potential of LMTK3 inhibitors for cancer therapy.
