Summary: This study investigates the role of low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 1 (LRP1) in the endocytosis process of articular cartilage. Summary: The fibroproliferative disorders like systemic sclerosis have no effective therapies till now, but the C-terminal domain of endostatin called E4 has shown promising results in preventing and reversing dermal and pulmonary fibrosis. This study found that E4 works by regulating the urokinase pathway, increasing MMP-1 and MMP-3 levels, and binding to proteins like enolase-1 and uPA receptor to promote extracellular matrix degradation. Furthermore, the glycolytic enzyme enolase-1 plays a moonlighting function in fibrosis by mediating the effects of TGF-beta 1 and exerting TGF-beta 1-independent fibrotic effects.

Summary: Nanomedicine has the potential to improve cardiovascular disease treatment, especially in delivering growth factors using particulate systems. In this study, AlginateSulfate nanoparticles are used to encapsulate pro-angiogenic and pro-survival growth factors for the treatment of myocardial infarction. The results show that the delivery system effectively reduces infarct size, improves coronary flow reserve, and leads to increased left ventricular ejection fraction and myocardial remodeling. This demonstrates the feasibility and efficacy of using AlgS-NP for growth factor delivery and offers a promising treatment for refractory ischemic cardiomyopathy.

Leptin was strongly associated with serum FGF21 levels in all patients, while PAI-1 was a significant predictor of FGF21 in patients without overweight/obesity, insulin resistance, and hepatic steatosis.

Summary: Catechol-O-methyl transferase (COMT) is involved in the detoxification of catechol estrogens and suppresses migration potential of breast cancer cells. In this study, the role of COMT in estrogen receptor-dependent breast cancer metastasis was investigated. Overexpression of COMT was found to decrease cell invasion and affect the transcriptome, proteome, and interactome of MCF7 cells. The study also revealed that COMT interacts with proteins involved in the MET signaling pathway, suggesting its involvement in tumor suppression.

Summary: The high pathogenicity of SARS-CoV-2 requires handling under biosafety level 3 conditions. Spike protein-pseudotyped vectors are useful for studying viral entry and inhibition, with methods to increase titer commonly including ultracentrifugation and Spike protein tail truncation. Studies showed that truncating the Spike tail increased incorporation into vectors and enhanced titers without impacting sensitivity to neutralization, while the D614G mutation independently increased incorporation and titers but was masked by the truncation. Use of full-length Spike protein with tangential flow filtration is recommended for generating high titer pseudotyped vectors retaining native Spike protein functions.
