Summary: This study used fluid-structure interaction analysis to investigate the relationship between morphological parameters and hemodynamic conditions in ascending aortic aneurysms. The results suggest that enlarged ascending aortic volume is associated with compromised hemodynamic conditions and higher mechanical wall stress.

Summary: This study reveals that XOR plays a role in the progression of MFS aortopathy, and inhibiting XOR can halt the development of aortic root aneurysm in MFS mice. The study also suggests that redox stress is an important determinant of aortic aneurysm formation and progression in MFS, and further evaluation of XOR inhibitors in MFS patients is warranted.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate patient and procedural characteristics and compare the outcomes and mortality after surgery between elderly and non-elderly patients with ascending aortic aneurysm. The study found that elderly patients had larger aortic diameters and more cardiovascular risk factors. Short-term mortality was comparable between elderly and non-elderly patients, but the five-year survival rate was lower in elderly patients.

Summary: This case-control study aimed to identify risk markers and develop a predictive model for acute and chronic aortic syndromes of the ascending aorta (ACAS-AA). The study found that bicuspid aortic valve, renal insufficiency, infrarenal abdominal aortic diameter, left common carotid artery diameter, and aortic width were independent risk factors for ACAS-AA. Additionally, abdominal aortic ectasia was found to be an independent risk factor for ACAS-AA.

Summary: This study used automated extraction of ascending aortic diameter from cardiac magnetic resonance images and conducted a genome-wide association study. The polygenic score constructed from multiple loci was able to predict the risk of thoracic aortic aneurysm in different populations. Additionally, the study revealed the causal role of blood pressure in reducing aortic dilation.

Summary: LMH001, a small chemical compound, effectively inhibits the activation of endothelial Nox2 and superoxide production induced by AngII by blocking the interaction between phosphorylated p(47phox) and p(22phox). It shows potential as a therapeutic candidate for oxidative stress-related cardiovascular diseases.

Summary: The hemodynamics in ascending thoracic aortic aneurysms (ATAAs) have an effect on arterial wall properties and are associated with the risk of aortic dissection. Hemodynamic indices may provide insights into aortic wall integrity and lead to novel metrics for assessing risks associated with ATAAs.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and cognitive function in older adults. The results showed that higher TAC was associated with a decreased risk of cognitive dysfunction, particularly in individuals with diabetes. This suggests that higher dietary antioxidant potential may be beneficial for reducing the risk of cognitive impairment.

Summary: The fibrotic type of endothelial mesenchymal transition (EndMT) is implicated in the development of degenerative ascending aortic aneurysm (AscAA). This study identified SPP1 as a key gene in the signature of fibrotic EndMT in patients with degenerative AscAA. The study also implicated ETS1 as a potential regulator of SPP1 expression under inflammatory conditions.

Summary: This study examined the association between HIV infection and aortic sizes in individuals living with HIV. It found that HIV infection was associated with larger aortic root and ascending aorta sizes. Lower CD4 T-cell count and higher levels of TNF-alpha were also found to be associated with larger aortic sizes in men with HIV.

Summary: This study evaluated the reproducibility of 4D flow MRI-derived hemodynamic parameters in the thoracic aorta of patients with thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA). The results showed good to excellent reproducibility for parameters such as normalized flow displacement, flow jet angle, wall shear stress, vorticity, and helicity. These parameters can be used to assess aortic aneurysms.
