Summary: This study investigated the viscosity, density, and calorific value of refined palm oil-hexanol-melaleuca cajuputi oil ternary biofuel blends suitable for diesel engine applications and their influence on the exhaust emissions. The results showed that the optimal blend ratio could reduce nitrogen oxides and smoke opacity emissions, but increase carbon monoxide and unburned hydrocarbon emissions at low loads.

Summary: Through the application of Species Distribution Modeling using the Maximum Entropy principle, this study identified current and future potential habitat distribution of Melaleuca cajuputi in Terengganu. The modeling results predict a significant decrease in habitat suitability in the future, with Marang area being most affected, while Setiu area shows stable habitat suitability. The study also highlights the influence of soil properties, temperature, and precipitation on habitat suitability during monsoon months.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the bio-efficacy of Melaleuca cajuputi essential oil against aflatoxigenic fungi and lipid peroxidation. The results showed that the essential oil exhibited remarkable inhibitory activity against fungal growth and AFB1 production. Molecular docking study revealed good correlation with the experimental findings. Additionally, the essential oil showed high radical scavenging activity. It effectively inhibited AFB1 production and lipid peroxidation in maize samples without altering their sensory attributes. This study demonstrated the potential of Melaleuca cajuputi essential oil as a natural food preservative.

Summary: This study utilized supercritical carbon dioxide extraction and molecular distillation techniques for the extraction and separation of essential oils from Dendranthema indicum extract. The optimal extraction parameters were determined by response surface methodology, and the main volatile flavor components in D. indicum extract and essential oils were identified. During the molecular distillation process, compounds with low boiling points were enriched in oils obtained at certain temperatures, while compounds with high boiling points were enriched in oils obtained at other temperatures.

Summary: This study systematically evaluated the influence of different combinations of pressures and temperatures on the extraction of key compounds from black pepper using supercritical CO2. Terpenes were easily extracted under all conditions, while higher pressures were required for efficient extraction of piperamides. The kinetics of extraction for piperine, piperettine, pellitorine, guineensine, and N-isobutyl-2,4,14-eicosatrienamide were linked to structural features. The results can be used to design a two-step pressure gradient SC-CO2 process for obtaining terpene-rich and piperamide-rich products.

Summary: This study investigated the efficacy of cajuput essential oil loaded chitosan nanoparticles (CjEO-CSNP) on the shelf-life of white button mushroom. Results showed that CjEO-CSNP improved the visual appearance, firmness, and antioxidant activity of the mushrooms while preventing weight loss and respiration rate. The nanoparticles also exhibited a high safety profile and did not alter the sensory quality of the coated mushrooms. Therefore, CjEO-CSNP holds promise as a potential candidate for extending the shelf-life of button mushrooms.

Summary: This study developed an effective antifungal formulation by extracting essential oil and phenolic compounds from grapefruit peels. In vitro experiments showed that the formulation had no toxicity to human cells and inhibited the growth of Candida albicans. This model approach is crucial for screening potential drugs for treating opportunistic fungal infections.

Summary: Cajuput trees are widely cultivated in Indonesia for their medicinal properties, with breeding programs focused on establishing seed orchards to improve genetic quality. The genetic structure, pollen dispersal patterns, and contamination rates in a seed orchard in Yogyakarta were investigated. The parent trees exhibited high genetic diversity, with some alleles not being inherited by offspring. Pollen dispersal was found to be panmictic with a high pollen donor number and distance, although there was evidence of contamination from nearby unselected trees. Promoting synchronous flowering and pollinator habitats may help optimize genetic diversity and reduce contamination.

Summary: The study proposed a rigorous economic and thermic optimization method for coconut oil SFE by combining CO2 empirical state equations, equilibrium and mass transfer models with raw material and manufacture costs in an optimization problem. The optimal results provide the low cycle temperature, CO2 flow, the extraction vessel volume and the extraction time to minimize the target variable and satisfy constrains.

Summary: This study investigated the extraction of cod liver oil (CLO) using either conventional methods or ecofriendly supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2). The optimized SC-CO2 extraction conditions were determined, and the chemical composition, safety, thermostability, and biological properties of the extracted oil were characterized. The results showed that SC-CO2-extracted CLO had higher purity, with higher levels of squalene and vitamins D and K, and lower levels of toxic heavy metals. Additionally, the SC-CO2-extracted CLO exhibited radical scavenging and antimicrobial functions and was cytotoxic for cancer cells.
