Total Quality Management (TQM) is an enduring approach for enhancing firm competitiveness. Still, there is dearth of research regarding organisational diffusion (post-adoption) of TQM. To address this gap, this research proposes a theoretical model rooted in institutional and upper echelon theories that explain TQM diffusion via top management commitment. We surveyed 300 senior quality managers representing 300 auto-components manufacturers in India to collect data to test the proposed model using variance based structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). The findings suggest that institutional pressures significantly influence top management commitment to TQM. Subsequently, top management commitment influences organisational diffusion of TQM via acceptance, routinisation and assimilation. Managers can use the findings of this research to better understand how to assimilate TQM so that anticipated benefits can be fully realised.

Social media and sensemaking patterns in new product development: demystifying the customer sentiment

Mihalis Giannakis, Rameshwar Dubey, Shishi Yan, Konstantina Spanaki, Thanos Papadopoulos

Summary: This study explores how information retrieved from social media can assist decision-making processes for new product development, focusing on consumers' emotions throughout the stages of NPD. By using a combinatory methodological approach involving the sensemaking method and fuzzy logic for text mining, the analysis identifies sensemaking patterns in Twitter data and explains the iterative role of customer social interactions in the NPD process.

Integration between emerging market equity and global markets; is it fundamental or noisy? Evidence from wavelet denoised volatility spillover analysis in time and frequency domain

Sangram Keshari Jena, Aviral Kumar Tiwari, Emmanuel Joel Aikins Abakah, David Roubaud

Summary: This study investigates the integration between five emerging stock markets and global financial markets through the analysis of volatility spillover. The impact of noise on connectedness is found to be more significant in the short term, and long-term connectedness is higher than short-term connectedness, confirming the existence of noise and fundamental relatedness.

Scrutinizing commodity markets by quantile spillovers: A case study of the Australian economy

Mehrad Asadi, Soheil Roudari, Aviral Kumar Tiwari, David Roubaud

Summary: Despite Australia's leading role in exporting strategic commodities, little research has been done on the effects of these exports on stock and currency markets in Australia. This study aims to investigate the volatility connectedness among various commodities and markets, using a combination of different methodologies. The findings suggest that mean-based measures do not accurately capture the effects of spillovers, and certain commodities and assets play a more significant role as shock transmitters. The study provides important insights for market participants in managing price volatility shocks and related risks, particularly during extreme market conditions.

Dynamic digital capabilities and supply chain resilience: The role of government effectiveness

Rameshwar Dubey, David J. Bryde, Yogesh K. Dwivedi, Gary Graham, Cyril Foropon, Thanos Papadopoulos

Summary: Organizations are investing in supply chain resilience to cope with disruptions caused by natural disasters, geopolitical crises, and pandemics. The lack of government support has worsened supply chain disruptions in some regions. Digitalization has a positive impact on social inclusion, government accountability, and creating an open environment. However, countries have shown varying degrees of digital responsiveness during the pandemic. This study examines the effect of government support effectiveness and digital capabilities on supply chain resilience using a multi-method approach.

Do natural resources determine energy consumption in Pakistan? The importance of quantile asymmetries

Kishwar Nawaz, Amine Lahiani, David Roubaud

Summary: Unlike previous studies, this paper examines the nonlinear and distributional asymmetric effects of natural resources abundance on energy consumption in Pakistan, considering the effects of economic growth, oil prices, exports diversification, and economic complexity. Using advanced econometric techniques, the authors find that natural resources have a positive contemporaneous effect and a negative one-period lagged effect on energy consumption, leading to a positive cumulative short-run effect. Economic growth and oil prices also contribute to energy consumption, while export diversification does not have a significant impact in the short run. The results suggest that natural resources can be utilized as an economic tool to maintain long-term energy demand for economic growth.

The impact of bitcoin fear and greed on good and bad network connectedness: the case of the US sectoral high frequency returns

Muhammad Tahir Suleman, Umaid A. Sheikh, Emilios C. Galariotis, David Roubaud

Summary: This article is the first to investigate the moderating effect of bitcoin sentiment indices on the short-term and long-term network connectedness of various US sectors. The study quantifies the relationship between sectoral returns and bitcoin investors' fear and greed sentiment, and examines the impact of these sentiments on network connectedness during pre-Covid-19 and Covid-19. The results show that fear, extreme fear, greed, and extreme greed moderate the volatility spillovers within the network. The article also explores the use of short positioning in US sectoral returns as a hedge against bitcoin sentiment risk.

Green bond vs. Islamic bond: Which one is more environmentally friendly?

Mahdi Ghaemi Asl, Muhammad Mahdi Rashidi, Aviral Kumar Tiwari, Chi-Chuan Lee, David Roubaud

Summary: This research examines the dynamics of dependence and causality between the S&P Kensho Clean Energy (CE) and Cleantech (CT) indices and two green bond indices, as well as four Islamic bond indices. The study finds that the dependence of CE and CT on Sukuk and green bond indices strengthens in the long and medium term, particularly in normal or bearish market conditions. AA- and A-rated Sukuk indices and Green Bond Select (GBS) indices exhibit stronger dependence with CE and CT compared to other instruments. Furthermore, causality is predominantly observed from Sukuk and bond indices to CT and CE in the frequency domain.
