Summary: This study demonstrates that EBV infection promotes the proliferation and gene expression profile changes of B cells, and reveals the regulatory mechanism of BFL-1 expression, which contributes to the survival of B cells.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the mitotic polo-like kinase 1 (PLK1) binds to EBNA2, phosphorylates its transactivation domain, and thereby inhibits its biological activity, ultimately reducing the risk of tumor development in healthy hosts infected with EBV.

Summary: DNA damage leads to transcriptional stalling to prevent mutagenesis and initiate repair signaling. Poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP1) inhibits Pol II elongation by inactivating the transcription elongation factor P-TEFb, promoting DNA repair and cell survival.

Summary: Oncogenic gammaherpesviruses employ various strategies to colonize the host, including the expression of noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs). The specific functions of EBV-encoded RNA 1 and 2 (EBER1 and EBER2) have remained largely unknown, despite extensive investigation. This study reveals that an EBV EBER2 variant highly associated with B cell lymphoma significantly promotes expansion of the infected B cell pool in vivo, coinciding with altered B cell differentiation.

Summary: The SWI/SNF family of ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complexes is frequently mutated in cancer and is involved in multiple DNA damage response mechanisms. Different subunits of the BAF, PBAF and ncBAF complexes are recruited to double-strand breaks (DSBs) in a transcription-dependent manner and promote homologous recombination. PBAF and ncBAF complexes facilitate RNA polymerase II eviction and initiate transcriptional silencing near DNA damage, while BAF complex helps to maintain this silencing. ARID1A-containing BAF complexes aid in R-loop resolution and DNA repair by promoting the recruitment of RNaseH1 and RAD52.

Summary: Helicobacter pylori and EBV are major risk factors for gastric cancer, and both can establish persistent infections and are considered carcinogenic. The study suggests that Helicobacter pylori infection facilitates the chemoattraction of EBV-infected B lymphocytes to the gastric mucosa, with IL-8 being identified as a powerful chemoattractant and CXCR2 as the main IL-8 receptor induced by EBV. Inhibition of IL-8 and CXCR2 reduces the chemoattraction of EBV-infected B lymphocytes, indicating an interaction mechanism between Helicobacter pylori and EBV.

Summary: This study investigated the response of human airway epithelial cells to Bordetella pertussis infection. The infection resulted in reduced epithelial barrier integrity and disrupted mucociliary transport. The study suggests that B. pertussis only induces mild immunological activation in the epithelial cells and requires communication with local immune cells for a broad immune response.

Summary: HDAC I histone deacetylases play essential roles in cell fate regulation, with HDAC1/2/3 exhibiting isoform-specific functions. Inactivation of HDAC1/HDAC2 mimics the effects of class I specific inhibitors and sensitizes cells to certain cancer drugs, suggesting their potential as therapeutic targets.
