Summary: This paper presents a detailed study on the influence of the shape of silver nanostructures on the efficiency of Raman signal amplification. It is found that silver crystals, dendrites, and sunflower-like nanostructures can be used for Raman signal amplification in SiO2/Si template, but with different efficiencies.

Summary: SERS is ideal for providing bacterial-specific molecular fingerprints, but generating reproducible spectra in complex structures like bacteria remains challenging. The study shows that the environment of bacteria affects the origin of SERS spectra, with densely packed bacteria exhibiting characteristic signatures related to secretion or cell structures, and isolated bacteria showing spectral variabilities. The variabilities do not prevent discrimination of different E. coli strains based on SERS signatures.

Summary: Silver dendrites with stems, branches, and leaf morphology were prepared on porous silicon using a single-step electrochemical etching method. The evolution and growth mechanism of the dendrites on porous silicon were analyzed, and different dendrites were obtained by controlling the etching time. The prepared dendrites showed high SERS efficiency for Rhodamine 6G molecules and exhibited a good linear relationship within a certain concentration range.

Summary: This tutorial introduces a promising data reduction method, Time-Frequency Principal Components Analysis (TFPCA), for EEG data. TFPCA offers a data-reduction approach that does not rely on specific timing or frequency boundaries for an effect of interest. The tutorial provides background knowledge, theory, and practical information, and is accompanied by a GitHub repository with example code and a step-by-step guide for performing TFPCA.

Summary: Principal component analysis (PCA) is widely used for dimensionality reduction, but its computational cost and memory requirements hinder its adoption in resource-constrained embedded platforms. The history PCA (HPCA) algorithm, with a parallel and memory-efficient implementation, achieves data compression with accurate results in a structural health monitoring (SHM) application.

Summary: A new method called minimalist module analysis (MMA) is proposed in this study to address the issue of redundant correlations between process variables in traditional multivariate statistical-based process monitoring (MSPM) methods. Simulation tests demonstrate that MMA achieves superior performance in fault detection and localization.

Summary: This paper presents a novel methodology for self-scheduling of a price-taker Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) facility based on Principal Components Analysis (PCA) and Affine Policies (AP) in the presence of uncertainties. The proposed PCA-AP model, developed from the facility owner's perspective, considers energy, spinning, and idle reserve markets. The results show that the PCA-AP approach provides less conservative results compared to the existing Affine Arithmetic (AA) model, making it a suitable method for day-ahead operations with significant uncertainties.

Summary: Microglia are resident macrophages that play a key role in immune surveillance and maintaining CNS homeostasis. This study provides a computational pipeline for image segmentation, feature extraction, and morphological categorization of microglia using hierarchical clustering on principal components. The pipeline revealed regional variations in microglia morphologies but found no evidence of male-female differences in adult mice. The findings highlight the value of the pipeline for unbiased identification and classification of microglia in CNS (disease) models.

Summary: PPSA is an adjusted approach for non-linear shape analysis, showing better performance in handling shape surface data compared to PCA. In both verification and model evaluation experiments, PPSA models outperformed PCA models in terms of accuracy, generalization, compactness, and specificity. In various challenging cases, the application of PPSA demonstrated advantages and improvement potential.

Summary: In this study, SERS technique was used to analyze and identify different chemical compounds from the fruiting bodies of six edible and/or medicinal mushrooms. The results showed characteristic spectra for each species and identified various biomolecule components. Additionally, Raman mapping and principal component analysis were used to track the spatial distribution of marker bands and discriminate the analyzed mushroom species.

Summary: The study aims to investigate the association between mind wandering experiences and individual biological signals during resting-state. By measuring subjective experiences with the Amsterdam Resting-State Questionnaire and extracting EEG data-driven components using frequency principal component analysis, a positive correlation was found between individual loadings and ratings for Sleepiness and Comfort.

Summary: Label-free surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) analysis has great potential for the early diagnosis and screening of colon cancer. In this study, Ag NPs/CNC/GO nanocomposite film was successfully fabricated as a uniform SERS active substrate for the analysis of clinical serum. Combined with the PCA-LDA model, the nanofilm showed promising results for colon cancer screening.
