Summary: Polyacrylic acid (PAA) and its derivatives are commonly used as matrices in wound dressings, but their weak wet adhesion limits their clinical application. In this study, a PAA-based coacervate hydrogel with strong wet adhesion capability is created by mixing PAA copolymers with isoprenyl oxy poly(ethylene glycol) ether and tannic acid. The coacervate exhibits solid adhesion to both dry and wet substrates, with an adhesive strength to skin of 23.4 kPa and 70% adhesion underwater. It also possesses desirable self-healing and extensible properties, making it suitable for joints that undergo frequent movement. The coacervate demonstrates antibacterial activity, facilitates fibroblast migration, modulates macrophage polarization, shortens hemostatic time, and promotes collagen deposition, angiogenesis, and epithelialization, suggesting its promising potential as a wound dressing in medical translation.

Summary: For patients who undergo laminectomy, scar formation between the spinal dura and surrounding tissues is inevitable. However, extensive epidural fibrosis can lead to limited nerve root activity and severe pain, resulting in postoperative failed-back surgery syndrome. Therefore, the development of a novel biomaterial that can effectively prevent epidural adhesions through the controlled release of drugs is highly desirable. In this study, we loaded pirfenidone (PFD) onto hyaluronic acid methacryloyl (HAMA) hydrogel and demonstrated its anti-adhesive properties through in vivo studies in rats. The PFD-loaded HAMA hydrogel not only effectively inhibited cell penetration and suppressed collagen I/III expression, but also prevented adhesion formation both pharmacologically and physically.

Summary: This study experimentally examined the performance of yield stress fluids in endoscopic applications and compared the properties of three model yield stress fluids at different concentrations. The results indicated a tradeoff between pressure drop and dripping during endoscopic catheter delivery, with laponite showing better operability. The relationship between operability and rheological properties, such as viscosity, yield stress, and restructuring time, was quantitatively studied.

Summary: Liver disease is a major cause of global mortality, and identifying biomarkers for diagnosing its progression is crucial for improving outcomes. Targeted mass spectrometry is a powerful tool for verifying biomarker candidates and clinical applications, particularly for glycoproteins translation. However, the limitation of analyzing only one sample per run has become apparent. In this study, a high-throughput intact N-glycopeptides quantification strategy was developed, allowing the validation of 20 samples per run with an average analysis time of 3 minutes per sample. The strategy was applied in a cohort of 461 serum samples and identified a panel of 10 IgG N-glycopeptides that have strong clinical utility in evaluating the severity of liver disease.
