Summary: Food systems at all levels are facing dysfunction and crises, and their governance contributes to intensifying crises such as climate change and non-communicable diseases. Governments at various levels are taking action to address the challenges faced by food systems. Recent research shows that local governments have the capacity to exercise legislative and regulatory powers to advance public health and support sustainable food systems, but their impact remains limited without substantive reforms at all levels of government.

Summary: The potential of fish in food systems to address malnutrition needs to be better realized, with governance challenges in complex, contested food systems needing to be addressed for equitable access to fish and benefits. Small-scale fishers and poor people face unequal struggles in securing access to fisheries, highlighting the importance of engaging with this struggle to enable positive contributions to food systems while meeting global sustainable development objectives.

Summary: Food systems are governed by policies from various sectors, and the lack of alignment can lead to conflicts. Conventional food practices contribute to problems such as climate change, health issues, and exploitation. Agroecology can provide cohesive national food strategies with benefits in multiple areas.

Summary: The main objective of transformative food actions is to effect fundamental changes in the institutional structures that shape current food practices. For those actions to gain constant momentum, it is necessary to understand the types of operations and the mechanisms through which they can permanently impact conventional food systems. This study examines the decades-long evolution of South Korea's public food procurement policy as an empirical operationalization of the Multi-level Perspective framework, highlighting the interplay between niche movements, landscape pressure, and institutionalization in policy paradigm shifts.

Summary: Most of the research on aquatic foods focuses on production and supply chains, with only a small portion addressing human nutrition. A minority of studies target low- and middle-income countries vulnerable to malnutrition. One third of the articles explore beyond finfish to other aquatic foods, emphasizing the value of local knowledge systems and diverse foods for nutrition.

Summary: This study conducted semi-structured interviews with 29 health directorate representatives from 21 local governments in Victoria, Australia to understand how they approach equity in health policies and programs. The findings show that local governments address health equity by targeting priority populations, disadvantaged geographic areas, or upstream determinants of health. The study also identified factors that enable more equity-oriented policy action, both internal (clear conceptualization of equity, equity-centric culture, and organizational-wide competency in health equity) and external (support from community, state government leadership and legislation, and supportive local partners, networks, and NGOs).

Summary: This article examines the impact of economic growth on residents' health from the perspective of local government behavior. The theoretical analysis shows that when the local government prioritizes the livelihood of the people, economic growth has a significant and positive impact on residents' health. Empirical tests using panel data from 31 inland provinces in China confirm that China's economic growth promotes residents' health.

Summary: Local governments play a crucial role in regulating urban agriculture, but some have been slow to adopt policies to support food production in urban areas. Lack of basic knowledge may be a barrier to fostering urban agriculture, despite positive attitudes from local government stakeholders. Efforts to provide key information and enhance knowledge may support the development of urban agriculture activities.

Summary: This study applies systems thinking to investigate the influences and impacts of sugar-sweetened beverage taxation. The findings suggest that influences and impacts may be cyclically linked, and the use of systems thinking methods in this area is relatively limited. A feedback-oriented conceptual framework is proposed to synthesize the evidence and guide further research and policy development.

Summary: This narrative review focuses on the emergent segment of the foodservice sector, online food delivery (OFD) platforms, in Australia. The study shows that there are three main operators with a large number of foodservice partners, and the revenue of OFD platforms has grown significantly in recent years. However, current public health nutrition policies do not specifically regulate OFD platforms. It is important to develop innovative and consistent health policy options to address the unique challenges and opportunities posed by OFD platforms in order to protect diet and diet-related health.

Summary: Introducing legislation that restricts companies from exposing children to marketing of unhealthy food and beverage products is difficult both politically and technically. This study examines the legislative approaches of Chile, Canada, and the United Kingdom to food marketing legislation and highlights the differences in their designs. While elements of best practice design are present, limitations exist in each country's laws. The UK's approach is the most comprehensive and likely to achieve its regulatory objectives. Opportunities remain for strengthening legislative responses to protect children from unhealthy food marketing practices.

Summary: Australian local governments play an important role in creating a healthy, sustainable, and equitable food system. However, their engagement in food system governance is uneven, with only a few having dedicated food system policies. The main motivators for policy development were environmental sustainability, reducing food waste, improving diet-related health and food security, and supporting local sustainable agriculture. Key steps included community consultation, identifying local food-related issues, and developing policy solutions. Enablers and barriers to policy development and implementation were identified at both the local government and state/federal levels.
