Summary: High glucocorticoid receptor (GR) expression is associated with disease progression in gynaecological cancers and early stage, untreated triple negative breast cancers, but not prognostic in late stage, chemotherapy treated triple negative breast cancers. Additional studies are needed to elucidate the tumour specific function of the GR receptor for targeted therapy.

Summary: In this study, a microRNA signature was identified to recognize patients at high recurrence risk in stage II colorectal cancer. The validity of these findings has been confirmed in an independent group of stage II microsatellite stable colon adenocarcinoma patients. Most of the microRNAs present in the signature have prognostic relevance in various other cancer types. Some of these microRNAs are involved in pivotal pathways of cancer progression.

Summary: This study conducted a comprehensive analysis of splice variants of Osteopontin and found that they have different expression patterns in various cancer patients, which are related to tumor grade, stage, and patient survival. However, there are still some discrepancies that need further investigation to clarify the diagnostic, prognostic, and potentially predictive potential of Osteopontin splice variants.

Summary: Increased CD155 expression is associated with poor prognosis in cancer patients, particularly in digestive system cancer, hepatobiliary pancreatic cancer, digestive tract cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, and head and neck cancer. Additionally, enhanced CD155 expression is significantly correlated with advanced tumor stage, lymph node metastasis, and distant metastasis.

Summary: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a severe complication during pregnancy, and identifying potential biomarkers for its early detection is crucial. This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate miRNAs associated with GDM. The findings suggest that certain miRNAs show altered expression in GDM, indicating their potential as biomarkers for early GDM detection.

Summary: This study investigated the association between ING3 expression and the prognosis of cancer patients. The results showed that high expression of ING3 was negatively associated with advanced TNM stage, lymph node metastasis, and disease-free survival. However, it was not associated with overall survival, tumor size, tumor differentiation, and gender.

Summary: This study examined the prognostic role of the hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet (HALP) score on survival outcomes in patients with solid tumors through a systematic review and meta-analysis. The results showed that a low HALP score was associated with decreased overall survival, cancer-specific survival, and progression/disease/recurrence-free survival. The prognostic value of HALP score was observed across various tumor types and stages. In conclusion, a low pretreatment HALP score serves as a reliable and negative prognostic biomarker for survival outcomes in patients with cancer.

Summary: The meta-analysis showed that lower miR-34a expression is significantly associated with poorer overall survival and disease-free/progression-free/recurrence-free survival in gastrointestinal cancer patients. The expression level of miR-34a is relatively lower in patients with lymph node metastasis, and decreased miR-34a expression is linked to poor tumor differentiation and late TNM stage. MiR-34a may serve as a new factor for prognosis prediction and progression in gastrointestinal cancers.

Summary: This review focuses on the expression profiling of miRNAs in osteoarthritis (OA) and their potential as diagnostic biomarkers. The study identified several miRNAs, including miR-146a-5p, miR-34a-5p, miR-127-5p, and miR-140-5p, which exhibited aberrant expression in OA and could be considered as potential biomarkers for the disease.
