Summary: The gut microbiota plays a critical role in energy homeostasis and its dysbiosis is associated with obesity. Maternal high-fat diet and beta-adrenergic stimuli independently alter the gut microbiota, but their combined regulation is not clear. This study investigated the combined effect of these factors on offspring microbiota and found that maternal high-fat diet altered the offspring's response to beta-adrenergic stimuli, as well as microbial composition and function. Additionally, exposure to different temperatures also affected bacterial function.

Summary: This study investigated the regulation of gut microbiota and lipid metabolism by Naoxintong Capsule (NXT), a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) widely used in the treatment of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. The results showed that NXT had a potential preventive effect on hyperlipidemia and could reconstitute the gut microbiota in high fat diet-fed rats. The study also identified potential therapeutic biomarkers of NXT, including propionic acid, Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio (F/B), and the relative abundance of Collinsella.

Summary: This study found that the combination of a high-fat diet (HFD) and Helicobacter pylori infection can interact to disrupt glucose metabolism, with antibiotics able to alleviate HFD-induced insulin resistance and glucose intolerance but unable to restore H. pylori-induced hyperglycemia. The gut microbiota of the mice co-treated with H. pylori and an HFD showed a greater perturbation, and their fecal metabolome was altered, resulting in weakened restorative effects of antibiotics and persistence of glucose disorders.

Summary: The experimental results of Tartary buckwheat protein on hyperlipidemic rats show that it can significantly lower LDL-C levels, increase HDL-C levels, and reduce levels of TC, TG, and LDL-C. The mechanism may be related to the regulation of gut microbiota, production of short-chain fatty acids, and improvement of bile acid metabolism.

Summary: Undaria pinnatifida has shown positive effects on reducing serum lipids and fat accumulation, as well as improving type 2 diabetes. This study demonstrated that sulfated polysaccharides from U. pinnatifida can reduce weight gain, fat accumulation, and metabolic disorders in mice fed with a high-fat diet, while also improving gut microbiota dysbiosis and reducing metabolic endotoxemia. The dose of UPSP has a relationship with its effects on physiological indexes, gut microbiota community, and nutrient utilization.

Summary: The research demonstrated that Auricularia polytricha noodles have potential effects on hyperlipidemia and gut microbiota dysbiosis in high-fat diet (HFD) mice, reducing body weight gain, hyperlipidemia, and liver fat accumulation. Additionally, A. polytricha noodles enriched gut microbiota diversity and prevented hyperlipidemia and liver fat accumulation induced by HFD.

Summary: The probiotics-fermented rice buckwheat (FRB) significantly reduced weight gain and visceral obesity, improved dyslipidemia, alleviated oxidative stress and chronic inflammation in high-fat diet-induced mice. Furthermore, FRB intervention inhibited hepatic cholesterol synthesis, promoted lipolysis, and reversed gut dysbiosis induced by high-fat diet, demonstrating its beneficial effects on hyperlipidemia.

Summary: The beneficial effects of Lactobacillus plantarum LP104 on lipid level and disordered gut microbiota in mice fed a high-fat diet were investigated in this study. The results showed that LP104 supplementation could alleviate body weight gain, liver index increase, colon length reduction, as well as improve TC, TG, LDL, TNF alpha, and LPS levels. High-throughput sequencing analysis revealed that long-term high-fat diet negatively affected microbial abundance and composition in the gut, but LP104 supplementation reduced the ratio of Firmicutes to Bacteroides and positively regulated the gut microbiota community structure. Additionally, the intake of LP104 also increased the abundance of beneficial bacteria Bifidobacterium in the cecum, which improved the intestinal flora disorder induced by a high-fat diet. These findings suggest that LP104 supplementation can improve high-fat diet-induced hyperlipidemia by positively regulating intestinal microorganisms.

Summary: Obesity, an inappropriate increase in weight related to height, is a major pandemic of the 21st century. The gut microbial ecosystem plays a role in obesity through its impact on systemic inflammation, immune response, energy harvest, and gut-host interaction. Metabolomics, the study of low-molecular-weight molecules involved in metabolic pathways, can be used to study the relationship between host metabolism and gut microbiota. This review discusses clinical and preclinical studies exploring the association of obesity and metabolic disorders with various gut microbiome profiles, as well as the effects of dietary interventions on gut microbiome composition and the metabolome. While nutritional interventions can support weight loss in obese individuals, there is no consensus on the most effective dietary protocol, both in the short and long term. Metabolite profiling and gut microbiota composition offer potential predictors for obesity control and determining optimal nutritional interventions, but more randomized trials are needed to apply these findings to clinical practice.
