The purpose of the study was to evaluate whether the intake of hormonal oral contraceptive influences the viability of mesenchymal stem cell. Sixteen healthy female volunteers with regular menstrual cycles were invited to participate. Menstrual fluid was collected on the day of maximum flux, and collected cells were analyzed by a minimal standard' for MSC characterization: plastic adherence, trilineage (adipogenic, osteogenic, chondrogenic) in vitro differentiation and a minimalistic panel of markers assessed by flow cytometry (CD731, CD901, CD1051, CD34-, CD45-) using monoclonal antibodies. The participants were divided into two groups: Group 1 - no hormonal contraceptive use; Group 2 - hormonal oral contraceptive use. The median of the menstrual fluid volume was 5.0 and the median number of cells was 5.2x10(6). Median of cell viability was 89.3%. After culture, mesenchymal stem cells increased from 0.031% of the total cells to 96.9%. The cells formed clusters and reached confluence after 15-21days of culture in the first passage. In the second passage, clusters and the confluence were observed after 3days of culture. No difference was observed between the groups. Our data suggest that oral hormonal contraceptive intake maintains the viability of mesenchymal stem cells from menstrual fluid.

Validation of the Residual Cancer Burden Index as a prognostic tool in women with locally advanced breast cancer treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy

Juliana Pierobon Gomes da Cunha, Rodrigo Goncalves, Fernando Silva, Fernando Nalesso Aguiar, Bruna Salani Mota, Bruna Bello Chequim, Jose Maria Soares, Edmund C. Baracat, Jose Roberto Filassi

Summary: This study investigated the correlation between the Residual Cancer Burden (RCB) index and overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) in women undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer. The results showed a significant relationship between the RCB index and the risk of relapse and death, suggesting the potential of RCB classification as a prognostic indicator.

Comparison between anterior and posterior vaginal approach in apical prolapse repair in relation to anatomical structures and points of fixation to the sacrospinous ligament in fresh postmenopausal female cadavers

Summary: This study compares the effects of anterior and posterior vaginal approaches in sacrospinous ligament fixation on anatomical structures and correlates them with body mass index (BMI). The results show no difference in the distances measured in the two approaches, while the distances from the fixation point to the pudendal artery and nerve are directly proportional to the BMI.

Could be FOXO3a, miR-96-5p and miR-182-5p useful for Brazilian women with luminal A and triple negative breast cancers prognosis and target therapy?

Summary: The expression levels of miR-96-5p and miR-182-5p have been found to be upregulated in breast cancer, while the protein expression of FOXO3A is decreased. This phenomenon is more prominent in triple-negative breast cancer, suggesting the important role of these molecules in the biology and clinical behavior of this tumor type. These findings provide new perspectives for alternative target therapy options for breast cancer patients expressing both FOXO3A and its regulatory miRNAs.

Summary: Our study aimed to investigate the effects of hormonal and metabolic factors on endometrial quality and progesterone action. Subjects were recruited from an outpatient reproductive endocrinology clinic. Endometrial biopsies were performed before and after progesterone treatment, and metabolic and hormonal serum levels were evaluated. The endometrium of women with PCOS in the second phase showed histomorphometric abnormalities, which were associated with androgen and insulin levels despite progesterone supplementation.

Postmenopausal women's cognitive function and performance of virtual reality tasks

J. Zangirolami-Raimundo, R. D. Raimundo, P. R. E. Silva Noll, W. S. dos Santos, C. Leone, E. C. Baracat, I. C. E. Sorpreso, J. M. Soares Junior

Summary: This study aimed to assess whether prior knowledge of computer use determines performance of virtual reality tasks by postmenopausal women and whether menopausal symptoms, sociodemographic factors, lifestyle and cognition modify or interfere with their performance. The study found that postmenopausal computer users performed better in virtual reality games than non-users, and computer users experienced more severe vasomotor symptoms. Age, cognitive function, and headache symptoms were the best predictors affecting the postmenopausal women's performance in virtual reality tasks.

Vitamin D and in vitro fertilization: a systematic review

Summary: This review aims to assess the relationship between serum vitamin D levels and in vitro fertilization (IVF) results. The selected 18 articles showed mixed results, with some indicating a positive correlation, some lacking any association, and one exhibiting a negative correlation. Non-Hispanic White patients may be more affected by vitamin D deficiency compared to Asian patients. Vitamin D levels may play a role in the follicular fluid levels and immune system, impacting embryo implantation and pregnancy.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the adaptation of older adults and middle-aged adults in a driving simulator, and identify predictors of safe performance. The results showed that age, sex, and distraction play a role in the adaptation process, and certain factors such as muscle strength and postural balance are important predictors of braking time.

Summary: PCOS is an endocrine disorder characterized by chronic anovulation, hyperandrogenism, and polycystic ovaries. The exposure to BPA, through various means such as food packaging and skin absorption, can interact with estrogen receptors and cause harmful changes in women's metabolic and reproductive function, leading to PCOS.
