Summary: Receptor kinases are key in extracellular sensing and stress responses in plants, with leucine-rich repeat receptor kinases regulating responses to internal and external stimuli. The phosphorylation of cytoplasmic domains is crucial for activating RK complexes, but it is not a ubiquitous requirement for LRR-RK activation. Further studies on different protein kinase domains may provide insights into the regulation of LRR-RK complexes.

Summary: This study sequenced the full-length transcriptomes of four common reef-building corals and identified the budding-related FGF and FGFR genes. The 3D models and binding models of FGF and FGFR proteins were reconstructed, revealing similarities between some corals and hydra in terms of the FGF8-FGFR3 binding model. This research provides background information for the potential budding propagation signaling pathway and aids in the future restoration of coral reefs.

Summary: The evolution of the Venus flytrap's ability to sense, capture, and digest animal prey has long been a mystery in the scientific community. Recent genome and transcriptome sequencing studies have provided some insight into the genes involved in these tasks, but proving a direct link has been challenging. In this study, researchers used CRISPR-Cas9 methods to modify the Venus flytrap genome and found that mutations in two mechanosensitive ion channel genes led to a reduced response in leaf-closing behavior. The findings suggest that multiple redundant ion channels play a role in the plant's sensory system for prey detection.

Summary: Receptor-like kinases (RLKs) in plants play diverse roles in plant development and stress responses by perceiving and transmitting environmental signals. In this study, a negative regulator named BDR1 was identified as a key player in rice resistance to the blast fungus Magnaporthe oryzae. BDR1 interacts with and phosphorylates MPK3, negatively regulating several defense-related pathways including jasmonate (JA) signaling and terpenoid biosynthesis. These findings contribute to our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying rice blast resistance.

Summary: Pathologies such as cancer, inflammatory and cardiac diseases are often associated with long-term oxidative stress, leading to protein dysfunction and failed trials of systemic antioxidant therapy. In cardiac myocytes, cardiac contractility is mainly driven by the beta-adrenoceptor-signaling cascade activating PKA-mediated phosphorylation for positive inotropic and lusitropic effects. Both kinase and phosphatase are redox-sensitive and play crucial roles in regulating cardiac contractile function.

Summary: Female wolf spiders are meticulous caregivers, carrying egg sacs and spiderlings during reproduction. This study identified 23 nuclear receptors in the genome of Pardosa pseudoannulata, including the key regulators EcR and USP-1, which are involved in ecdysteroid signaling. Interference with EcR and USP-1 led to impaired spiderling development and non-viable eggs in the egg sacs, highlighting the importance of ecdysteroid signaling in spider development and reproduction.

Summary: This study reveals the critical role of liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) in the spatiotemporal control of insulin signaling. LLPS regulates multiple components, including IRS1, and is involved in the formation of intracellular IRS1 condensates. Insulin stimulation and protein concentration drive the formation of IRS1 condensates, which function as intracellular signal hubs for insulin signaling. Impairment of IRS1 condensate formation is observed in insulin resistant cells. Overall, LLPS plays an important role in the regulation of insulin signaling.
