Side chains were constructed in the modified A ring of eleutheside analog. The structure of the transformation product of 6-oxiranylcyclohex-3-ene-1-carbonitrile by the action of Red-Al, (1S,2R,6R,7S)-7-[(1S,2S)-1,2-isopropylidenedioxy-2-methylbut-3-yn-1-yl]-2-methylbicyclo[4.1.0]hept-3-ene-1-carbaldehyde, was determined by X-ray analysis.

Intramolecular aldol condensation of Michael adducts of levoglucosenone and cyclododecanone

Summary: The base-promoted intramolecular aldol condensation of diastereomeric Michael adducts of levoglucosenone and cyclododecanone yields a mixture of three diastereomers of 12-hydroxy-14,20-dioxatetra-cyclo[9.6.1.1(12)(,17).1(13,16)]icosan-18-one. These products show promise for synthesizing 14-membered macrocyclic compounds, including cembranoids and their analogues.

cis-Annulation of an oxazoline fragment to levoglucosenone and the synthesis of 4-substituted 3-amino-1,6-anhydro-3-deoxy-β-D-mannopyranose

Summary: Chiral 2-trichloromethyloxazolines were synthesized from levoglucosenone and annulated to a carbohydrate fragment. The compounds were converted to 4-substituted 3-amino-1,6-anhydro-3-deoxy-beta-D-marmopyranoses by acid hydrolysis. Intramolecular amination of allyl trichloroacetimidates was used to construct the oxazoline ring. It was found that trichloroacetimidates with an epoxide ring undergo recyclization to form the oxazoline ring spontaneously.

Reaction of the levoglucosenone Diels-Alder adducts with acetaldehyde under the McMurry conditions
