Summary: This study found that calcium scores in the coronary, carotid, and thoracic arteries are independent predictors of major adverse cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease. The potential of calcification in these three arterial sites for predicting cardiovascular events and mortality was most pronounced.

Summary: Accelerated and premature cardiovascular calcification is common in chronic kidney disease patients, with valvular calcification being a critical indicator of cardiovascular disease. Low levels of Gla-rich protein (GRP) and magnesium, along with high levels of phosphate, are associated with mitral and aortic valves calcification. The diagnostic value of GRP may be potentially useful in assessing cardiovascular risk in this population.

Summary: Vascular calcification is a complex biological process regulated similarly to skeletal bone at the molecular and cellular levels, affected by metabolic, hormonal, and inflammatory stimuli. Calcium deposits in the vessel wall introduce different stress effects at different edges, influencing the risk of plaque rupture.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the characteristics, risk factors, and prognosis of cardiovascular calcification in patients with CKD stages 1-4. The results showed that demographic and traditional cardiovascular risk factors were associated with cardiovascular calcification, especially AAC. AAC may be associated with an increased risk of death in CKD patients, while CVC may only be a risk factor for cardiovascular disease in patients with mild to moderate CKD.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of medial calcification on cardiovascular events (CVE) and mortality in patients starting on kidney failure replacement therapy. Moderate to severe medial calcification in the arteria epigastrica was associated with higher mortality and increased risk of CVE. The medial calcification score could be a reliable method to identify patients with high and low risk of CVE and mortality following kidney transplantation.

Summary: Biomarkers play crucial roles in describing biological processes and monitoring intervention strategies. Lipid biomarkers are used in clinical settings to predict and monitor metabolic diseases, such as specific circulating ceramides as predictors of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of metformin (MET) on apoptosis induced by methylglyoxal (MGO) in diabetic vascular complications. It is found that MET can prevent cell apoptosis induced by MGO by suppressing oxidative stress and increasing antioxidative capacity through ROS-mediated PI3K/Akt and Nrf2/HO-1 pathways.

Summary: There is an association between nephrolithiasis and cardiovascular (CV) morbidities. Metabolic syndrome and habits that promote nephrolithiasis also contribute to CV disease. Conditions like oxidative stress, metabolic acidosis, and reduced mineral density are factors that link the two diseases. Episodes of renal stones should be considered a warning sign of ongoing atherosclerosis. Evaluating CV risk factors and metabolic syndrome in renal stone formers is crucial for treatment and prevention of CV complications.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between the healthy eating index-2015 (HEI-2015) and abdominal aortic calcification (AAC) in US adults. The results showed that higher HEI-2015 scores were associated with lower AAC scores and a decreased risk of having AAC. Specifically, a higher intake of fruits, greens, and beans was linked to lower AAC scores. These findings suggest that greater adherence to the 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, as assessed by HEI-2015, may be beneficial for preventing vascular calcification and cardiovascular disease among US adults.

Summary: The study aimed to develop and validate a nonenhanced CT based radiomics model for detecting brown adipose tissue (BAT) and explore the relationship between CT radiomics derived BAT and cardiovascular calcification. The study found that radiomics features from nonenhanced CT can reliably detect BAT, and patients with BAT have less cardiovascular calcification.

Summary: The article explores the harmful effects and signaling pathways of arterial and aortic valve calcification, proposing a new strategy targeting the mechanism of calcification and emphasizing the application of epigenetics in reducing calcification harm. Further clinical trials are needed for a comprehensive understanding and application of this strategy.

Summary: Arteries calcify as they age, with a high vascular calcium score associated with high cardiovascular mortality risk. While the mechanisms of plaque calcification have been well characterized in mice, human plaques appear to calcify through different mechanisms that remain obscure.
