Summary: This study investigates the antifungal activity of menthol and its underlying mechanism. The results show that menthol can inhibit the growth of Geotrichum citri-aurantii and reduce the incidence of citrus fruit disease. Additionally, menthol treatment maintains fruit quality and enhances defense-related enzyme activities in citrus.

Summary: Metschnikowia citriensis FL01 has great potential for biocontrol applications due to its ability to induce iron depletion and form the insoluble pigment pulcherrimin to inhibit postharvest diseases on citrus fruit. Knocking out the PUL2 gene responsible for PA synthesis using CRISPR/cas9 technology resulted in pigmentless mutants with significantly reduced biocontrol efficacy against Geotrichum citri-aurantii, confirming the importance of iron depletion as a key mechanism for biocontrol in M. citriensis FL01.

Summary: In this study, primers targeting the RPB1 genes of Geotrichum citri-aurantii were developed to differentiate it from other species and postharvest pathogens. Multiple isolates of G. citri-aurantii from different cities in China were investigated for their sensitivity to guazatine. The results showed variations in the EC50 values of the isolates, with some showing significantly higher resistance compared to the control.

Summary: This study investigated the fungicidal actions of iminoctadine tris (albesilate) (ITA) against Geotrichum citri-aurantii. The sensitivity of G. citri-aurantii isolates to ITA was established, and ITA was found to reduce mycelial branching, delay germination of arthrospores, disrupt cell membrane integrity, and affect the lipid content and oxidative stress markers in the fungus. These findings contribute to the understanding of ITA's fungicidal action and its potential application in controlling citrus sour rot.

Summary: Key lime is an emerging crop in Italy, particularly well-suited for cultivation in the Southern regions. A field survey in Sicily revealed the presence of water-soaked spots and sunken/dry lesions, highlighting the importance of environmental conditions and agronomic practices in diseases/disorders development. This report also marks the first identification of Geotrichum citri-aurantii on Key lime in Europe.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of blue light on citrus infected by Geotrichum citri-aurantii and the physiological mechanisms of blue light during postharvest storage. The results showed that blue light induced the production of carotenoids and UV resistance in the pathogen fungus. Additionally, blue light accelerated lipid droplet production and reactive oxygen species burst. The study also found that blue light significantly enhanced the activities of antioxidant enzymes and defense-related enzymes, leading to reduced decay occurrences and improved quality in citrus.

Summary: This study evaluated the antifungal activities of 25 oxygenated aromatic compounds against Geotrichum citri-aurantii and revealed their structure-activity relationships. Salicylaldehyde, thymol, and o-phthalaldehyde showed strong inhibitory effects on the growth of G. citri-aurantii. QSAR analysis identified the factors influencing the antifungal activity of the compounds, providing theoretical guidance for the development of effective antifungal drugs to control sour rot in citrus.

Summary: Fig (Ficus septica Brum.f.) leaf extract contains bioactive compounds with antifungal properties that inhibit the growth of Colletotrichum acutatum fungus. The mode of action involves diffusion into the fungal cells, interfering with cell organelle structure, leading to cell lysis, and ultimately inhibiting fungal growth and causing cell death. These findings suggest that fig leaf extract could be a safe alternative measure for controlling anthracnose disease in chili peppers.
