Summary: ERS, particularly the role of IRE-1, was analyzed in UC mucosa tissue and cell lines, revealing its involvement in regulating cell proliferation, apoptosis, and response to IL-6-induced ERS. Targeting IRE-1 could enhance unfolded protein response and apoptosis in UC, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic target.

Summary: The study demonstrates that insulin deficiency is a key factor in causing diabetes-related brain complications, involving the interaction between ASIC1a and ERS. Silencing CHOP and ASIC1a can alleviate the pro-apoptotic effect of insulin deficiency on nerve cells. Insulin deficiency leads to increased ERS, promoting neuronal apoptosis.

Summary: In addition to protein processing, the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) also plays roles in lipid synthesis, molecular transfers, and Ca2+ homeostasis. Proper protein folding and modification in the ER require molecular chaperones and a favorable environment. Disruption in ER conditions or chaperone capacity can lead to the unfolded protein response (UPR), triggering autophagy and potentially causing cell death.

Summary: The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is vital for cellular functions, but disruptions in its homeostasis can lead to ER stress, linked to diseases like cancer, obesity, and diabetes. The mechanisms of ER stress related to chronic hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia in type II diabetes remain unclear.

Summary: This study investigates the effects and underlying mechanisms of magnetic hydroxyapatite scaffolds on inhibiting osteoclast proliferation and inducing osteoclast apoptosis. The results show that the magnetic scaffolds can decrease osteoclast number by promoting apoptosis and repressing proliferation, thus reversing the progression of osteoporosis. This is mainly attributed to the suitable cellular microenvironment provided by the magnetic scaffolds, resulting in decreased reactive oxygen species level and inhibiting autophagy.

Summary: This study investigated the anticancer properties of annatto tocotrienol (AnTT), gamma-tocotrienol (gamma-T3), and delta-tocotrienol (delta-T3) on chondrosarcoma cells. The results showed that these tocotrienols induced G1 arrest and apoptosis in the cells, as well as caused cytoplasmic vacuolation. Transcriptomic analysis revealed upregulated signaling pathways related to endoplasmic reticulum stress, autophagy, and transcription. Several cell proliferation and cancer-related pathways, such as Hippo and Wnt signaling pathways, were also downregulated. Further research is needed to confirm the effectiveness of these tocotrienols as adjuvant therapy for chondrosarcoma.

Summary: The study revealed that autophagy induced a high level of neuronal apoptosis through endoplasmic reticulum stress in neurons exposed to OGD/R. The autophagy-BiP-CHOP-caspase (8 and 9)-dependent apoptotic signaling pathway partly participated in autophagy-induced apoptosis in primary cortical neurons. This caspase-12-independent BiP-CHOP neuronal apoptosis pathway expands understanding of the neuronal apoptosis network and may provide potential intervention strategies for OGD/R injury following stroke.

Summary: The study showed that BBR-PDT had significant differences in inducing apoptosis and upregulating cleaved caspase-3 protein expression in MMCs, and it also increased autophagy level and activated ER stress through ROS. Knockdown of CHOP protein expression inhibited the effects of BBR-PDT, suggesting a potential role of CHOP in apoptosis, autophagy, and ER stress in MMCs treated with BBR-PDT, demonstrating the essential impact of BBR-PDT on growth inhibition in MMCs.

Summary: The study showed that dendrobine reduced endothelial cell apoptosis induced by ERS through upregulating miR-381-3p expression, partially restoring cell proliferation level, and mediated by caspase-4. These findings provide new insights into the causes of endothelial cell apoptosis in AS and highlight the therapeutic potential of dendrobine in treating AS.

Summary: Liver injury and the unfolded protein response (UPR) are closely related, with ATF6a playing a critical role in promoting hepatic stellate cell (HSC) activation and fibrogenesis. Interestingly, loss of both Atf6a and Ire1a from HSCs worsens fibrosis, highlighting the importance of fine-tuned UPR signaling in regulating HSC activation and fibrogenesis.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the neuroprotective effect of shikonin in rats with double-level chronic cervical cord compression and glutamate-induced neurotoxicity in primary rat cortical neurons. The results showed that shikonin inhibited neuronal apoptosis and promoted motor recovery by regulating ER stress through attenuating the activation of PERK-eIF2 alpha-CHOP.
