Summary: The study reveals that the tubulin-specific chaperone dTBCE in Drosophila plays a crucial role in the enrichment of tubulin in the nuclear space after nuclear envelope breakdown, as well as in the promotion of spindle microtubule nucleation, regulated by Ran and lamin proteins. This novel mechanism enhances microtubule nucleation around chromatin during early mitosis, facilitating mitotic spindle assembly.

Summary: TLNRD1 is a α-helical protein structurally homologous to talin R7R8, which binds and bundles F-actin, and interacts with LD motif-containing proteins like RIAM and KANK. In cells, TLNRD1 promotes filopodia formation and cell migration, suggesting it has distinct functionality as an actin-bundling protein.

Summary: During HIV-1 infection, CARD8 is activated by HIV protease through site-specific cleavage, leading to pyroptotic cell death and release of pro-inflammatory cytokines. The cleavage site in human CARD8 emerged after the divergence of chimpanzees and humans, suggesting that simian immunodeficiency virus in chimpanzees was already capable of activating the CARD8 inflammasome in humans prior to cross-species transmission.

Summary: Axonal transport is crucial for neuronal function. In this study, EBP-1 was found to regulate the association between kinesin-3/KIF1A/UNC-104 and DCVs, leading to efficient axonal delivery of specific cargo. EBP-1 functions at the trans Golgi by directing microtubule growth and interacting with KIF1A. These findings provide insights into the mechanisms of specific kinesin-3 cargo delivery to the axon.

Summary: Mutations in the genes encoding the KDM5 family of histone demethylases are associated with intellectual disability, and these proteins are involved in neurodevelopmental pathways. KDM5 regulates synaptic structure and neurotransmission at the neuromuscular junction through demethylase-dependent and independent mechanisms, demonstrating the complex nature of its neuronal gene-regulatory programs.

Summary: This study focuses on the synapse-specific functions of splice isoforms of the synaptic adhesion molecule Neurexin-3 (NRXN3). They discovered a highly expressed proteoform, NRXN3 AS5, in GABAergic interneurons and dendrite-targeting GABAergic terminals. The deletion of Nrxn3 AS5 isoform specifically impaired dendrite-targeting interneuron synapses, highlighting the importance of alternative splicing regulation for synapse function.

Summary: In this study, we discovered that ARMADILLO REPEAT KINESIN 2 (ARK2) negatively regulates hypocotyl elongation in Arabidopsis. The hypocotyl cells of plants with the ark2 null allele were longer and had more transversely arranged cortical microtubules compared to the wild type. ARK2 co-localized with cortical microtubules and facilitated their light-induced reorientation. It was also found that ARK2 is stable in light and degraded in the dark through the COP1-mediated 26S proteasome pathway.

Summary: eIF3j, originally reported as a labile subunit of eIF3, is important for translation termination by stimulating peptidyl-tRNA hydrolysis and interacting with release factors. It plays a role in loading release factors into the ribosome before GTP hydrolysis, in conjunction with eIF3, in the regulation of translation termination.

Summary: Long-term exposure to high levels of PM2.5 is associated with increased blood pressure and hypertension risk. In China, for each 10μg/m3 increase in PM2.5 concentration, systolic and diastolic blood pressure increased by 1.67mmHg and 0.45mmHg, respectively, and the prevalence of hypertension increased by 29%. The relationship between PM2.5 and blood pressure may be non-linear.

Summary: This study aims to examine whether adherence to ideal cardiovascular health (CVH) can mitigate the genetic risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) in non-European populations. The results showed that individuals with a favourable CVH profile demonstrated similar relative effects across Polygenic Risk Score (PRS) categories, reducing the CAD relative risk by a similar magnitude. Individuals with high PRS achieved the greatest benefit from favourable CVH, mitigating the risk to the average level of the population. Attaining favourable CVH should be encouraged for all individuals, especially those with high genetic susceptibility.

Summary: This study determined the mechanism of nano-Se antagonism in Cd-induced hepatocyte pyroptosis by targeting the APJAMPK-PGC1 alpha pathway. The results showed that Cd activated the NLRP3 inflammasome and caused hepatocyte pyroptosis. Furthermore, Cd also increased hepatic fibrosis. However, the co-treatment of nano-Se and Cd significantly reduced the degree of fibrosis.

Summary: This study estimated the fetal and pediatric doses from chest CT scans performed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Organ and effective doses were calculated using VirtualDose-CT software. The results showed that fetal absorbed doses ranged from 0.04 to 0.61 mGy depending on the gestational age, and extending the scan range to the abdominal region increased fetal doses by almost 4-fold. The findings provide valuable information for radiologists and patients to minimize unnecessary radiation exposure.

Summary: In this study, the function of the vacuolar ATPase subunit H (VmaH) in Penicillium digitatum was characterized. The results showed that silencing the VmaH gene reduced cell growth and pathogenicity of P. digitatum, increased vacuolar pH and decreased extracellular pH. Furthermore, VmaH gene silencing inhibited the expression of transport genes and interfered with nutrient metabolic processing, leading to altered cell morphology and weakened pathogenicity.

Summary: Hybrid organic-inorganic piezoelectrics have gained attention for their fascinating performance, ease of synthesis, and mechanical flexibility. However, most reported systems contain toxic heavy metals or are unstable due to metal halide bonds. In this research, a stable zero-dimensional hybrid piezoelectric material based on an environmentally friendly anion of SCN- was synthesized. The resulting flexible composite films showed exceptional mechanical energy harvesting properties, outperforming state-of-the-art piezoelectric devices, with excellent durability and stability.

Summary: Directional distribution analysis is essential for abstracting dispersion and orientation of spatial datasets, but it must be used cautiously to protect individuals' privacy. There is a tension between accurate directional distribution results and location privacy. In this paper, we propose a geo-ellipse-indistinguishability privacy notion to protect individual location data and present elliptical privacy mechanisms based on gamma distribution and multivariate normal distribution. The empirical evaluation shows that our proposed elliptical approach achieves significantly higher directional distribution utility compared to circular noise function based methods.

Summary: Host-guest drug delivery systems (HGDDSs) have been studied to modify therapeutic agents and improve treatment effects. The targeting ability of HGDDSs needs continuous improvement for the development of precision medicine. In this study, a lactose-modified azocalix[4]arene (LacAC4A) was used as a triple targeting drug carrier for antitumor purposes. LacAC4A showed effective tumor growth suppression through passive targeting, active targeting, and stimuli-responsive targeting. This design principle provides a new material for drug delivery systems.
