Summary: This study tested the efficacy of grape polyphenol extract during high calorie-high fructose overfeeding and found that the supplementation did not have any impact on metabolic and weight changes in both men and women.

Summary: The aim of this study was to assess if fasting and post-load incretin concentrations were predictive of pregnancy insulin and glucose concentrations. The results showed that fasting plasma GLP-1 concentrations were associated with plasma insulin concentrations, but not with glucose concentrations. GIP concentrations were not associated with insulin or glucose concentrations.

Summary: This study found that different ratios of EPA and DHA have different impacts on adipose tissue metabolism, with fish oil rich in EPA instead of DHA effectively reversing changes induced by obesity.

Summary: Sex-specific associations were found between lipid species involved in mitochondrial fatty acid transport, beta-oxidation, and tricarboxylic acid cycle flux, which may provide therapeutic targets to improve insulin sensitivity. Men had lower insulin sensitivity, higher muscle acylcarnitines, serum ceramide, and lysophosphatidylcholine levels compared to women. Localizations of intramuscular lipids did not exhibit sex differences.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effect of moderate over-nutrition of energy and protein on prepartal insulin resistance, metabolic status, and performance of ewes. The results showed that moderately over-fed ewes with extra protein and energy had improved insulin sensitivity and milk production, as well as better metabolic status around parturition.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of probiotics on weight, metabolism, gut microbial groups, and functionality in youths with obesity through a double-blind, randomized control trial. The results showed that an 8-week treatment with B. breve BR03 and B632 had beneficial effects on insulin sensitivity in youths with obesity, suggesting that microbiota functionality may influence metabolic responses to probiotics and tailored probiotic treatments could be an additional strategy for obesity.

Summary: This study demonstrates that partial loss of skeletal muscle-specific Drp1 expression is sufficient to improve whole-body glucose homeostasis and insulin sensitivity under obese, insulin-resistant conditions. This improvement may be due to reduced mitochondrial H2O2 production. Furthermore, the findings revealed divergent effects of Drp1 on whole-body metabolism under lean healthy or obese insulin-resistant conditions in mice.

Summary: This study found that pyridoxamine (PM), a B6 vitamer and dicarbonyl scavenger, can reduce methylglyoxal (MGO), protein-bound N delta-(5-hydro-5-methyl-4-imidazolon-2-yl)-ornithine (MG-H1), soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (sVCAM-1) and soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1). However, PM does not affect insulin sensitivity and vascular function.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effect of magnesium supplementation on insulin sensitivity in patients with type 2 diabetes. The results showed that despite a modest increase in serum magnesium concentration, oral magnesium supplementation did not improve insulin sensitivity in insulin-treated type 2 diabetes patients with low magnesium levels.

Summary: The parasympathetic nervous system plays a crucial role in regulating whole-body glucose metabolism, but slow deep breathing did not have a significant impact on peripheral glucose metabolism after an oral glucose tolerance test. The study results suggest a link between the autonomic nervous system and insulin secretion, providing new insights for potential treatment approaches for impaired insulin secretion in diabetes.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of Goji berry dietary supplementation on insulin sensitivity in rabbit does during pregnancy and found that a higher dose of Goji berry supplementation can improve insulin response. However, the study did not demonstrate the effect of maternal diet on adult offspring's insulin sensitivity.

Summary: This study aims to explore the relationship between the hypertriglyceridemic waist (HTGW) phenotype, insulin sensitivity, and pancreatic beta-cell function in individuals with normal glucose tolerance (NGT). The results demonstrate that the disposition index (DI) can serve as a predictive indicator for insulin sensitivity and pancreatic beta-cell function in men with the HTGW phenotype and NGT. The HTGW phenotype is associated with decreased DI among men with NGT, indicating that decreased DI is a strong predictor of future impaired glucose tolerance.

Summary: The study found that maternal obesity in pregnancy may have adverse effects on the fetus, especially related to fatty acid concentrations. Pregnant women with high fasting C-peptide and low ISHOMA had decreased n-3 PUFA in fatty acids, and this change was more significant in mothers bearing a female fetus.

Summary: Oral spermidine supplementation can regulate lipid metabolism and have therapeutic effects on obesity and related diseases. Spermidine reduces body fat and weight, improves weight and blood glucose under high sucrose intake, but has no impact on dietary fat-related parameters.
