PROGRESS IN OCEANOGRAPHY

PROG OCEANOGR

ISSN / eISSN
0079-6611
Aims and Scope
Progress in Oceanography publishes the longer, more comprehensive papers that most oceanographers feel are necessary, on occasion, to do justice to their work. Contributions are generally either a review of an aspect of oceanography or a treatise on an expanding oceanographic subject. The articles cover the entire spectrum of disciplines within the science of oceanography. Occasionally volumes are devoted to collections of papers and conference proceedings of exceptional interest. Essential reading for all oceanographers.

The peer review efficiency of the journal is still very high, and the questions raised by the reviewers are very professional. During the first review, the editor invited two expert reviewers, and during the second review, an additional expert was added. As a well-established journal in the field of marine science, PO has a good reputation in the industry, although it has a lower level of recognition due to its low publication volume. Fortunately, it has always been classified as a first-tier journal by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. I hope that PO Journal will continue to improve, and I will submit suitable manuscripts in the future.

As an old magazine in the field of oceanography research (publishing about 150 articles per year), although PO has consistently had a high ranking and impact factor, its popularity in China has always been weaker than JGR-Oceans (publishing about 600 articles per year), especially in the field of physical oceanography. Journals with long submission cycles, strict review processes, and low publication volumes like this are indeed not very popular. Similar journals include Journal of Physical Oceanography (publishing about 150 articles per year) and Ocean Modelling (publishing about 90 articles per year), which are more theoretical and have a smaller audience. I hope these well-established journals can continue to improve!
