Aims and Scope
The Journal of Hydrology publishes original research papers and comprehensive reviews in all the subfields of the hydrological sciences including water based management and policy issues that impact on economics and society. These comprise, but are not limited to the physical, chemical, biogeochemical, stochastic and systems aspects of surface and groundwater hydrology, hydrometeorology and hydrogeology. Relevant topics incorporating the insights and methodologies of disciplines such as climatology, water resource systems, hydraulics, agrohydrology, geomorphology, soil science, instrumentation and remote sensing, civil and environmental engineering are included. Social science perspectives on hydrological problems such as resource and ecological economics, environmental sociology, psychology and behavioural science, management and policy analysis are also invited. Multi-and interdisciplinary analyses of hydrological problems are within scope. The science published in the Journal of Hydrology is relevant to catchment scales rather than exclusively to a local scale or site.

I work on satellite rainfall direction. The submission process can be described as extremely miserable. The review process is incredibly slow, but fortunately, the final result was acceptance!

First submission:
Submitted to journal on September 16th, 21.
Rejected on September 26th, 21 (Editor's reason: We no longer need content for applicability evaluation!)
Transferred submission to Atmospheric Research, which is ranked as a second-tier journal in atmospheric science and has now been promoted to the first-tier. They rejected the submission but I think their feedback is still acceptable. I still want to give it a try at JH (Journal of Hydrology) since its reputation in the water resources circle is higher than Atmospheric Research.

Second submission:
Submitted to journal on December 22nd, 21.
Rejected on May 13th, 22 (but given an opportunity for resubmission).
Under review for over 4 months.

Third submission:
Submitted to journal on May 15th, 22 (yes, it only took two days for revisions. I was fully motivated during those two days. I really wanted to get accepted!)
Major revision requested on October 15th, 22.
Under review for over 4 months.

Fourth submission:
Submitted to journal on October 25th, 22.
Accepted on April 19th, 23.
Under review for over 5 months.

After the first minor revision in March, one of the two reviewers was not found, so another one (the third reviewer) was sought. The original one was supposed to agree to accept it, but the third reviewer requested major revisions (I was a bit frustrated at the time, who understands that minor revisions can turn into major revisions!). After completing the major revisions, it was returned as "under review" for about half a month and then changed to "review invited" again. Another reviewer (the fourth reviewer) was invited again. The fourth reviewer requested minor revisions this time. So, personally, I feel that the probability of the operation of JOH changing from "under" to "invited" is higher, because the second reviewer of my second round suggested changing the title, and the editor may not be satisfied with the new title, as the request to change it back was included in the comments from the fourth reviewer. By now, it has been almost 12 months since the first submission, far exceeding the initial expectation of 6 months. It is a complicated feeling, and I just hope to hear back soon ? ? ? ?
