Aims and Scope
Engineering Geology is an international interdisciplinary journal bridging the fields of the earth sciences and engineering, particularly geological and geotechnical engineering. The focus of the journal is on geological or engineering studies that are of interest to engineering geologists, whether their initial training is in geology or civil/mining engineering. The studies published in this journal must show relevance to engineering, environmental concerns, and safety.

Sample topics of interest include but are not limited to applied geomorphology and structural geology, applied geophysics and geochemistry, environmental geology and hydrogeology, land use planning, natural hazards, remote sensing techniques, soil and rock mechanics and applied geotechnical engineering.

Paper types considered are original research articles, case histories, and comprehensive reviews. Case studies, in particular, should emphasize why the paper is of interest to the international readership of this journal, and/or what new or novel research or theoretical methods are being presented.

The journal is intended for academic scientists, industry and applied researchers, and policy and decision makers.

First submitted to NC and CACIE, but it was rejected after review because they couldn't find enough reviewers. Then it was submitted to ENGINEERING GEOLOGY, and it seems to have encountered an editor who specializes in the field. The editor is fast but extremely strict:

20/10/2022 submit. The next day, the editor replied and requested revisions to certain parts of the paper and the abstract.
25/10/2022 resubmitted. The editor agreed to the revisions but provided new suggestions for modification.
28/10/2022 submitted for the third time. The next day, it was under review.
26/12/2022 feedback received. Minor and moderate revisions were requested, and the editor provided 7 additional review comments.
28/01/2023 revised.
04/03/2023 feedback received. Both reviewers agreed to accept, but the editor found a new reviewer who suggested minor revisions.
18/03/2023 revised.
19/03/2023 the third reviewer agreed to accept, but the editor unexpectedly provided further comments and requested language polishing.
05/04/2023 revised.
Accepted on the same day.

PS: The editor's comments are highly professional and insightful. Before submitting, I had a negative mindset and directly submitted it in accordance with CACIE's format. The editor patiently notified me of the revisions needed and provided excellent suggestions for modifying the paper before it was sent for review.

2020.07 Submission
In January 2021, I received suggestions for major revisions, but actually the suggested modifications were mostly minor details. If it weren't for the "major revision" status mentioned in the decision, I would have thought they were minor revisions. I made the revisions by the end of the same month.
In May 2021, I received major revision suggestions again, which were also focused on minor details.
I made the revisions in June 2021.
Accepted in July 2021.
It was really slow. It took a whole year from submission to acceptance. After discussing with other teachers and classmates who have published in the same journal, I found that my experience was considered fast. Some waited over a year for acceptance, and it was common for the editorial office to take a month after collecting the reviewers' comments before sending an acceptance email. However, considering that the impact factor of this journal has been increasing in recent years and it has a good reputation, it is still worth submitting if I don't need to graduate in a hurry.
I just graduated with my Master's degree and received the acceptance email. It can be considered as a closure for my Master's stage.
