Aims and Scope
Manufacturing is undergoing major transformation due to the unforeseen challenges arising from the current trend of miniaturization, the emergence of new materials and the growing interaction between biologists and engineers to learn more from nature and living objects.

Traditionally, a "top-down" approach has been used in manufacturing. Recently, engineers and scientists have begun exploring "bottom-up" approaches for manufacturing today's highly complex products. Further, these emerging processes are aimed to improve process efficiency and product quality.

Background:
1. Recommended by a colleague, claiming fast review process.
2. Invited to review at the beginning of the year, given 2 weeks. After completing the review, received results in a week.

4-12 submission (article number ~850, estimated total submissions for the year ~2500)
4-16 under review
6-16 under review (status 04-16), no updates for two months, checked the submission system for progress. No response.
6-30 under review (status 04-16), sent a follow-up inquiry (second time). No response.
7-10 under review (status 04-16), sent a follow-up inquiry (third time), cc'd the supervisors. No response.
Around 7-15, under review (status 07-13), there was an update in the review status, finally someone is handling our manuscript (?). Sent an email to the editor-in-chief to inquire about progress, cc'd the supervisors, Elsevier support, SMEJMP@elsevier.com. Elsevier replied the next day with a bunch of polite words, but no substantial content. Still no information from the journal side.
2021-07-22 Sent an email to the journal and the editor-in-chief, requesting withdrawal of the submission.
2021-07-23 Journal's reply (first response), confirming the withdrawal of the submission.

Journal benchmarking JMPT. Currently, in the field of traditional mechanical manufacturing, apart from 3D printing, the best machine tool has an annual publication output of 80 articles, which mostly consists of rare and unusual things. Secondly, JMPT has an annual publication output of over 300 articles, which many senior colleagues like, but in my opinion, it's just average. The literature requirements are peculiar, and it's not easy to get published with regular work. This journal currently has an annual publication output of over 700 articles and a real-time Impact Factor of 4.866 (JMPT 5.225), with slightly lower difficulty. Other manufacturing journals can hardly make it to the forefront, such as that International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, which is a high-volume publication and basically doesn't reject submissions. Therefore, the traditional field is in a dire situation, with a total of over a thousand articles from these three journals in a year, unable to match the publication output of any random chemistry or materials journal.
