Western Balkans Fund Move Grants Now Open to Boost Regional Cooperation and Mobility in the Western Balkans Region
The Western Balkans Fund (WBF) is pleased to announce the opening of the Fourth Call for WBF Move Grants, aimed at fostering regional cooperation and mobility within the Western Balkans Region. This initiative seeks to empower individuals across various sectors by providing financial support for projects that promote collaboration and exchange.
The WBF Move Grants offer a maximum amount of 4,000 Euros in grants to eligible applicants. The grants are open to diverse individuals, including academic staff, researchers, students, civil society activists, public employees, journalists, artists, athletes, and more.
WBF Move Grants is a grant scheme launched by the Western Balkans Fund in 2023. In the three previous Calls for Proposals (March, June, October 23), WBF provided 85 grants to regional stakeholders. For more please visit: https://westernbalkansfund.org/
Key details of the Fourth Call for WBF Move Grants include:
Application Period: The application period will last 30 days, providing interested individuals ample time to submit their proposals (20 February-20 March).
Application Process: Applicants must apply through the Online Grant Management System, which can be accessed via the official webpage of the Western Balkans Fund at www.westernbalkansfund.org.
Eligibility: All citizens holding the nationality of one of the Contracting Parties of the WBF are eligible to apply.
The WBF Move Grants Scheme is part of the institutional strengthening and diversification of the grant portfolio of the Western Balkans Fund, supported by the Swiss Government.
SPS's present aims include detecting and preventing the use of chemical, biological, and radiological weapons to combat terrorism.
• Defense against security studies the causes and potential solutions to resource security issues such as food and energy scarcity, as well as environmental degradation.
• Proactive assessment of problems related to partner country priorities.

The 2024/2 call for proposals will be launched in April, with a deadline in June 2024.

AI systems that can engage in diagnostic discourse have the potential to improve accessibility, consistency, and quality of care. However, mimicking physician expertise is a significant great issue. The team behind Google DeepMind have proposed a new AI model, designed for diagnostic dialogue, called AMIE (Articulate Medical Intelligence Explorer), in a recent preprint paper, Towards Conversational Diagnostic AI (https://arxiv.org/abs/2401.05654) published on 11 January on arXiv. The model could take in information from patients and provide clear explanations of medical conditions in a wellness visit consultation.

Towards Conversational Diagnostic AI (https://arxiv.org/abs/2401.05654) published on 11 January on arXiv. This paper introduces AMIE (Articulate Medical Intelligence Explorer), a Large Language Model (LLM) based AI system optimized for diagnostic dialogue. AMIE employs a framework to assess clinically relevant aspects of performance, such as history-taking, diagnostic accuracy, managerial reasoning, communication skills, and empathy. The study contained 149 case scenarios from clinical providers in Canada, the United Kingdom, and India, 20 PCPs to compare with AMIE, and evaluations by specialized physicians and patient actors. AMIE outperformed specialized physicians on 28 of 32 axes and patient actors on 24 of 26 axes, indicating higher diagnosis accuracy and performance. This study contains limitations and should be treated with caution. Clinicians were constrained to unfamiliar synchronous text-chat, which allows for large-scale LLM-patient contacts but does not indicate standard clinical practice.
Project Survey on the inventory of local and regional initiatives to address the negative effects of brain drain
Concrete examples of initiatives might include talent circulation strategies at various levels, policy tools, collaborations and networks, funding programmes, services and activities targeting returning researchers, alumni and diaspora researchers, networking activities etc.
The survey is conducted within the ERA TALENT Project and is coordinated by CERTH (The Centre for Research & Technology, Hellas, Greece), in collaboration with APRE (Agency for Promotion of European Research, Italy) and SAIA (Slovak Academic Information Agency).
