British Council Women in STEM Scholarships The British Council is launching our global Women in STEM scholarship programme in partnership with UK universities. This is the fourth year that the scholarship has been launched. We are looking for women with a STEM background who can demonstrate their need for financial support and who wish to inspire future generations of women to pursue careers in STEM. AI and the FCI: Can ChatGPT Project an Understanding of Introductory Physics? This study examines the initial performance of two ChatGPT versions (ChatGPT3.5 and ChatGPT4) in first-semester university physics courses. They do this by evaluating their ability to provide accurate answers to conceptual physics questions concerning kinematics and Newtonian dynamics using a modified version of the Force Concept Inventory (FCI). They show that, although ChatGPT3.5's performance is noticeably variable and the results are subtle, it can, by some measures, match or surpass the median performance of a university student who has completed one semester of college physics. Using the same metrics, they discover that ChatGPT4's performance on introductory mechanics topics is nearly identical to that of an expert physicist.
