Summary: This study evaluated the impact of individual tongue function and the mechanical properties of gels on squeezing behavior. The results showed that maximal voluntary tongue pressure (MVTP) was positively correlated with average tongue pressure per squeezing cycle (ATPS) and negatively correlated with the number of squeezes. Additionally, MVTP and the fracture properties of gels were associated with ATPS and the number of squeezes.

Summary: This study investigates the delivery of oral care in a surgical context and compares patients' self-reported oral health with registered nurse assessments. The results show that oral health assessments should be performed by registered nurses, and there are deficiencies in fundamental care delivery in surgical care.

Summary: Oral care has been shown to reduce healthcare-associated pneumonia (HAP) rates, but compliance with this practice is suboptimal. Through quality improvement PDSA cycles over an 8-week period, improvements in oral care documentation compliance were observed, but HAP rates did not significantly decrease. Infection prevention leadership should consider regularly incorporating PDSA cycles to improve compliance with evidence-based infection prevention practices.

Summary: This study developed a small wireless mouthguard device for measuring the pressure of oral soft tissues on teeth. The device showed high sensitivity and a strong correlation with wired devices. It successfully measured tongue pressure during swallowing and can contribute to assessing tongue thrusting habits.

Summary: This study evaluated functional outcomes in patients with advanced oral tongue/floor-of-mouth cancer treated with compartmental tongue surgery (CTS) and reconstruction. Results showed that some patients experienced swallowing issues, but the presence of sub-clinical food aspiration and vallecular pouch varied depending on adjuvant treatments. CTS had minimal impact on speech articulation, and residual tongue strength was not affected by proper reconstruction.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of knowledge and attitude related to pressure ulcer prevention on care performance. The results showed that care performance had a significant positive correlation with knowledge, attitude, work experience, amount of experience, and the number of training sessions received. Multiple regression modeling identified work experience, knowledge, and attitude as variables significantly affecting care performance.

Summary: This study investigates the usefulness of saliva determination as a complement to the electronic tongue method for the palatability evaluation of Traditional Chinese Medicine oral formulations. The study confirms the validity of the saliva amount evaluation method in determining the response threshold and intensity of different taste substances. The results also show that the responses of E-tongue sensors can characterize a significant amount of the salivary marker information.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of an Oral Care Program on home care nurses' attitudes and knowledge, as well as on the oral health of older people. The program significantly improved the oral health of older people, particularly those with full dentures. It also improved the knowledge and attitude of home care nurses, fitting well with their daily work routines. Individual-centered care plans for older people, education of home care nurses, and the expertise of dental hygienists added value to home care nursing.
