Summary: The Karakoram terrane is a preserved part of peri-Gondwana continental crust in Ladakh, India. It became a part of Eurasia during the Jurassic and its southern margin was an active continental margin represented by the Karakoram Batholith. Geochronological data suggests that the magmatism in the terrane was extinguished during the Late Cretaceous. More studies are needed to understand the geological and tectonic evolution of the southern margin of Eurasia before and after the final continental collision with the Indian continent.

This Baraboo orogeny, linking the Picuris orogeny to the southwest and the Pinware orogeny to the northeast, represents a unique transcontinental orogeny in the early Mesoproterozoic, characterized by a great width, predominance of ferroan granites, and regional high T-P metamorphism related to granitic magmas.

Summary: Precise U-Pb zircon dating has constrained the age of the Central Sudetic Ophiolite in the Variscan Belt of Europe, indicating that the different massifs in the Ophiolite are tectonically dismembered fragments of a single oceanic domain formed around 402.6-402.7 Ma. The magmatic activity in the Ophiolite was contemporaneous with high-temperature/high-pressure metamorphism in the region, suggesting geodynamic coupling between continental subduction and oceanic spreading.
