Summary: In this study, RNA sequencing was used to analyze the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) during seed germination of Paris polyphylla var. yunnanensis. Several genes potentially involved in seed germination were identified, providing a valuable resource for further studying the molecular basis of seed germination in this medicinal plant.

Summary: The low germination rate of Cyclobalanopsis gilva seeds is attributed to insufficient energy supply, with proteins related to carbohydrate metabolism up-accumulated in germinated seeds and no changes or down-accumulation in non-germinated seeds.

Summary: This study reveals that prolonged NRF2 activation through p62-mediated pathway increases carbohydrate flux in the polyol pathway, resulting in a shift in glucose homeostasis and promoting arsenic diabetogenicity.

Summary: Our study revealed the transcriptional levels of genes and the sequence of their corresponding metabolic pathways during seed germination. The changes in cell structure and physiological indexes also confirmed these events. Our findings provide a foundation for determining the molecular mechanisms underlying seed germination.

Summary: In this study, the combination of high voltage electrostatic field treatment (EF) with hydropriming (HYD), namely hydro-electro hybrid priming (HEHP), significantly improved the germination indicators of carrot seeds. Proteomic analysis identified differentially abundant proteins between different treatments, and key enzymes involved in carbohydrate metabolism showed enhanced abundance in priming treatments. Real-time quantitative PCR analysis revealed that the effect of priming is mainly reflected before sowing.

Summary: The aim of this study was to establish an ex-situ conservation method for Gastrochilus japonicus using media with defined substances without plant growth regulators. The results showed that New Dogashima medium supplemented with 29.2 mM trehalose was suitable for seed germination and subsequent protocorm development. Moreover, ND medium containing 58.4 mM sucrose and 1 g/l activated charcoal was favorable for the plantlet growth after leaf induction from protocorms.

Summary: The study suggests that SISWEET15 plays a role in mediating sucrose efflux from releasing phloem cells to fruit apoplasm and subsequent import into storage parenchyma cells during fruit development. Furthermore, SISWEET15-mediated sucrose efflux is likely required for sucrose unloading from the seed coat to the developing embryo.

Summary: Treatment of faba bean seeds with 0.001 M Zn solution followed by surface drying can improve biomass production, leaf area, α-amylase activity, soluble sugar, SPAD value, leaf Zn concentration, while reducing leaf malondialdehyde content and total antioxidant activities under drought stress. Adequate Zn supply through seed priming can help in alleviating the adverse effects of drought stress during the early seedling growth stage in faba bean.

Summary: Maize is a valuable raw material for feed and food production, and understanding the molecular mechanisms of seed germination is crucial for improving yield and quality. This study used multi-omics to investigate the molecular mechanism of gibberellin-induced seed germination in maize. The results revealed differentially expressed genes and miRNAs related to carbohydrate, lipid, amino acid, and energy metabolisms. A lipid metabolism-related gene, ZmSLP, was found to negatively regulate maize germination, which was confirmed through transformation experiments in Arabidopsis. These findings provide valuable insights into the mechanisms of maize seed germination.

Summary: This study tested the use of calorespirometry as a phenotyping tool to evaluate seed respiratory properties at different temperatures. Significant differences in metabolic heat rate and CO2 production rate were found among different cultivars of peas. The germination trial showed that 20°C was the optimal germination temperature and 'Torta de Quebrar' cultivar had the highest germination rate at all tested temperatures.

Summary: Certain substances called germination inhibitors can inhibit the germination of seeds. They can be classified as germination destructors or germination retarders, with the former causing harm to the seed and the latter being closely related to seed dormancy. These inhibitors have important applications in seed preservation and herbicide use.
