Summary: Through whole genome sequencing, we found that the bacterium causing leaf spot disease on hibiscus is similar to Pseudomonas amygdali pv. tabaci and pv. lachrymans. The genome of this isolate shares 4987 genes with P. amygdali pv. hibisci, but has 204 unique genes, including gene clusters encoding putative secondary metabolites and copper resistance determinants. We predicted the type III secretion effector (T3SE) repertoire of this isolate and identified 64 putative T3SEs. Assays showed that the isolate is resistant to copper at a concentration of 1.6 mM. This study improves our understanding of the genomic relatedness and diversity of the P. amygdali species.

Summary: This study investigated the chemical composition and antioxidant activity of 16 cultivars of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis. Flavonoids, including anthocyanins, glycosylated flavonols, and flavan-3-ols, were identified in the extracts. The total flavonol concentration was inversely proportional to the total anthocyanin content. Antioxidant activity increased with increasing anthocyanin concentration.

Summary: In this study, biogenic CoFe2O4 nanoparticles were synthesized using Hibiscus rosa sinensis plant leaf as a bio-reductant. The nanoparticles were characterized using various analysis techniques, and it was found that they exhibited superparamagnetic behavior and could eliminate organic and bacterial pollutants.

Summary: This study reported the complete genome sequence of Hibiscus chlorotic ringspot virus (HCRSV) and developed a molecular detection tool for its diagnosis in the national flower of Malaysia, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis. The study also explored the impact of the viral infection on the leaf structure of symptomatic samples. The findings contribute to the management strategy of the virus and the protection of an important plant species.

Summary: The study demonstrates that Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. leaves mucilage in the form of a gel can enhance transdermal drug delivery by altering skin barrier and permeability, leading to increased drug permeation. The optimal concentration of 2% (w/w) HRS mucilage was found to be effective in facilitating caffeine transdermal delivery.

Summary: An eco-friendly method was used to synthesize ZnO from Hibiscus rosa-sinensis extract and combine it with TiO2 as a nanocomposite. Characterization techniques including XRD, FTIR, SEM, and TEM revealed changes in structural properties and particle characteristics. The composite showed enhanced antibacterial properties against E. coli and S. aureus after doping with TiO2.

Summary: The study showed that mild hypothermia combined with IPC has an additive effect on reducing ischemia-reperfusion injury, while the combination of mild hypothermia and RIC did not provide additional cardioprotection. Mild hypothermia appeared to have an anti-ischemic effect during the ischemic period, while IPC and RIC targeted reperfusion injury.
