Summary: A comprehensive genetic algorithm is used to search for Cl-(H2O)(1-9) and NaCl(H2O)(1-9), and various properties of these systems are investigated. It is found that the introduction of Na+ stabilizes the ionic hydrogen bonds in Cl-(H2O)(n), while the introduction of Cl- weakens the interactions between Na+ and H2O in Na+(H2O)(n). The structures of NaCl(H2O)(n) obtained from the genetic algorithm correspond to contact ion pairs, and solvent-separated ion pair structures appear when n = 7. The infrared spectra analysis shows good agreement with experimental results, and charge analysis reveals the charge transfer from Cl- to H2O in NaCl(H2O)(n).

Summary: NKCC2 is an integral membrane protein that mediates the cotranslocation of Na+, K+, and Cl(-) ions in the TALH, allowing for the reclamation of a large fraction of filtered Na+, Cl-, Ca2+, Mg-2(+), and HCO(3)(-). Malfunction of NKCC2 can lead to various inherited disorders, illustrating its physiological importance.

Summary: The research measured the diffusion coefficients of Na+ cations in compounds Na-2(CB9H10)(CB11H12) and Na-7-CB10H13, revealing exceptionally high diffusion rates exceeding 2 x 10(-6) cm(2)/s. Additionally, both compounds exhibited superionic conductivity near the order-disorder phase transition temperature of 320 K. The study also found that the transition from low-T ordered phase to high-T disordered phase was accompanied by a sudden acceleration of jump rates.

Summary: The sodium-chloride cotransporter (NCC) is crucial for kidney function and blood pressure regulation. This study used cryo-electron microscopy to determine the structure of human NCC and its interaction with a commonly prescribed thiazide diuretic. The findings provide important insights into the NCC's transport mechanism, as well as its regulation and interaction with thiazide diuretics, which are widely used for treating hypertension.

Summary: Photoresist materials are being optimized for EUV technology, with research focusing on the fundamental photoreactivity of organometallic compounds, particularly n-butyltin-oxo cage dications. It was found that tin-carbon bonds undergo homolytic cleavage under photon exposure, and the addition of counterions affects the photoionization threshold and fragmentation pathways. Different counterions lead to different reaction products during photoexcitation.

Summary: The development of atomically precise heteronuclear nanoclusters with protecting ligands is a growing area, allowing fine-tuning of properties by doping well-known homonuclear nanostructures. Doping Os into the classic [Au-13(dppe)(5)Cl-2](3+) cluster alters its electron configuration and optical behavior, showing potential for further exploration of stable doped species derived from the ligand-protected Au12Cl2 core.

Summary: The study comprehensively investigates the structure, stability, charge transfer, and chemical bonding properties of palladium-doped magnesium clusters using the CALYPSO software and first-principles DFT computations. The research enriches the geometric structure database of transition metal-doped Mg clusters and provides theoretical insights into new cage-like structures for magnesium-based hydrogen storage nanomaterials. The results show that Pd-Mg interactions are non-covalent bonds, with PdMg6 and PdMg7 being critical sizes for Mg-Mg covalent interactions.

Summary: The abundance spectra of (CO2)(N) clusters were analyzed under a wide range of adiabatic expansion conditions, revealing a universal pattern in cluster stability functions. Individual cluster properties, size-dependent cluster binding energies, shell and subshell closing sizes, and cuboctahedral packing ordering for larger sizes were identified through the analysis. The study demonstrates that even a small variation in dissociation energies can lead to significant abundance variations, especially for larger clusters.

Summary: Nanostructured electronic devices, like graphene-based ones, can be fully metallized while the insulating substrate remains coverage-free when exposed to small size-selected silver nanoparticles. This effect is due to the low binding energy between metal nanoparticles and a contaminant-free passivated silica surface. It provides insight into nanoparticle adhesion and has practical applications in deposition of metallic layers on device working surfaces, eliminating the need for masking and extensive pre- and post-processing.
