Summary: Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a liver disease characterized by lipid accumulation and inflammation. This study investigated the role of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) in a mouse model of NASH. The results showed that bFGF treatment reduced ceramide levels and alleviated inflammation, oxidative stress, and cell death associated with ER stress. These findings suggest that targeting ceramide synthesis pathways and ER stress-related pathways could be a potential therapeutic approach for NASH.

Summary: This study aimed to develop stable formulations of FGF-2 using pharmaceutical excipients to withstand physical stressors encountered in processing and storage. Formulations containing MC and alanine (F5) or MC and HSA (F6) were the most effective in stabilizing FGF-2 against thermal and processing stressors. These stabilized solutions have potential applications in medicinal products or in more advanced forms for wound healing and tissue regeneration.

Summary: The stimuli-responsive liberation of an epidermal growth factor fragment (EGFfr) in nanofibrous meshes has been achieved to enhance wound healing effects. The released EGFfr from EGFfr@TK@NF depends on hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) concentration, significantly improving keratin and collagen gene expression levels in in vitro and in vivo studies, showing promise for wound treatment.

Summary: Capsaicin, a major ingredient in chili pepper, has been shown to have broad pharmaceutical applications, including reversing UV-induced skin damage by reducing ROS generation in dermal fibroblasts. This suggests that capsaicin may be a promising agent for anti-skin aging in dermatology.

Summary: Cancer, the leading cause of death worldwide, requires successful strategies for treatment. Growth factors like VEGF, bFGF, and TGF-beta play significant roles in tumor growth, activating essential signaling pathways and promoting cell proliferation, angiogenesis, and metastasis. Specifically, bFGF is secreted by tumor cells and interacts with its receptors (FGFRs), leading to tumor cell proliferation, invasion, and upregulation of pro-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic proteins. Studies have focused on developing therapeutic strategies targeting the bFGF/FGFR axis, considering its involvement in oncogenesis. This review comprehensively examines the biological mechanisms of bFGF in the tumor microenvironment, available anticancer therapies targeting FGFRs, and the prognostic value of bFGF.

Summary: Dermal fibroblasts produce collagen and IGF-1, regulating cell proliferation and responses to stressors. The study shows that H2O2 induces cell senescence, while pretreatment with Cr or NAM can protect fibroblasts from this senescence. These findings suggest a potential strategy for preventing stress-induced senescence in aging skin.

Summary: It has been discovered that FGF23, which is originally associated with renal disease, is also linked to hepatic and cardiac diseases. The liver is found to produce FGF23 in response to injury and it may have proinflammatory effects on hepatocytes and other organs.

Summary: Drug-induced hearing loss is a major type of acquired sensorineural hearing loss, with cisplatin and aminoglycoside antibiotics known to cause ototoxicity. Fursultiamine, a thiamine disulfide derivative, shows potential to prevent cisplatin- and kanamycin-induced ototoxicity by reducing mitochondrial oxidative stress and apoptotic hair cell death.

Summary: During the regression of the ovarian corpus luteum, fibroblasts are responsible for rapid matrix remodeling. However, little is known about the role of fibroblasts in the functional or regressing corpus luteum. In this study, it was found that FGF2 activates luteal fibroblasts, leading to collagen production and cell proliferation.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of oxygen concentration on the response of mitochondria to X-ray radiation and fibroblast activation in tumor microenvironment formation. The results suggest that high oxygen levels enhance the effects of radiation on mitochondria and fibroblast activation. Lower oxygen concentration can mitigate radiation damage and fibroblast activation.

Summary: Skin wounds in developing mouse fetuses can heal without scar formation, unlike adult mammalian wounds. It has been found that the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family plays a crucial role in fetal wound healing, with FGF7 potentially being associated with scar formation. Administration of FGF7 can inhibit fibrosis and promote epithelialization, providing a potential therapeutic option for scarless wound healing.

Summary: This study investigated the therapeutic efficacy of lenvatinib combined with sequential TACE on primary HCC and its effects on serum bFGF and VEGF. The results showed that the combination treatment group had a higher objective response rate, lower serum bFGF and VEGF levels, and better survival rates.

Summary: The effects of ethanol consumption on blood pressure involve vasoconstriction and activation of RAAS. This study found that MR pathway plays a role in ethanol-induced hypertension and vascular hypercontractility. Ethanol increased COX2 expression, ROS levels, and TXB2 production in blood vessels, which were prevented by MR blockade. The mechanism involves MR-triggered ROS generation, up-regulation of COX2, and overproduction of TXA2. MR blockade reversed the hyperreactivity induced by ethanol.
