Summary: This study evaluated two neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy regimens for localised oesophageal adenocarcinoma or gastro-oesophageal junction adenocarcinoma, showing that CarPacRT had better survival outcomes and progression patterns compared to OxCapRT. Distant progression was more common than locoregional progression in both regimens, suggesting a need to prioritize systemic treatment optimization.

Summary: This study demonstrated that there was no difference in the efficacy of POEM with a shorter cut length of 8 cm compared to the standard treatment of 13 cm. The shorter cut length also reduced the procedure time significantly. However, reducing the cutting length did not reduce the rate of GORD.

Summary: This open-label randomized controlled trial investigated the effects of long-term pulmonary rehabilitation on exercise tolerance in patients with IPF. The results showed that pulmonary rehabilitation significantly improved endurance time, but did not have a significant effect on 6-minute walking distance.

Summary: This study evaluated the long-term effects of synovectomy in conjunction with total knee arthroplasty (TKA) on pain, function, and complications. The results showed that synovectomy did not provide any benefit regarding postoperative pain, range of motion, and patient satisfaction during a 10-year follow-up, and it did not result in more blood loss and increased incidence of long-term complications.

Summary: The long-term follow-up of the UK Collaborative Trial of Ovarian Cancer Screening (UKCTOCS) did not show a significant reduction in deaths due to ovarian or tubal cancer with screening. While there was an increase in early-stage cancer detection in the MMS group, it did not translate into lives saved, highlighting the importance of specifying cancer mortality as the primary outcome in screening trials. Consequently, general population screening for ovarian and tubal cancer cannot be recommended.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether human papillomavirus (HPV) self-sampling can increase screening participation among long-term non-attenders in Norway. The results showed that opt-in and send-to-all self-sampling methods increased screening participation among long-term, higher-risk non-attenders. Moreover, the detection rate of high-risk HPV in self-samples was similar to that in clinician-collected samples.

Summary: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy shows potential benefits for locally advanced colon cancer compared to postoperative chemotherapy. In this study, patients with radiologically staged T3-4, N0-2, M0 colon cancer were randomly assigned to receive 6 weeks of preoperative oxaliplatin-fluoropyrimidine chemotherapy followed by either 18 or 24 weeks postoperatively. Results indicate that neoadjuvant chemotherapy results in marked downstaging of tumors and lower rates of incomplete resections and disease recurrence within 2 years.
