Summary: This study demonstrated that G protein-coupled estrogen receptor (GPER) regulates oocyte maturation in goats by modulating the expression of natriuretic peptide receptor 2 (NPR2) and epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like factors. Activation of the downstream EGF signaling network by GPER leads to a decrease in cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) synthesis and acceleration of meiotic resumption in goat oocytes.

Summary: In mammalian females, the maturation and development of oocytes are regulated by various factors, including the maturation-promoting factor (MPF) complex and serum-glucocorticoid kinase proteins (SGK1). This study demonstrates that SGK1 is expressed in mouse oocytes and its activation promotes CDK1 activation, leading to the development and maturation of oocytes.

Summary: The experiment aimed to investigate the effects of selective inhibition of glucose or fatty acid metabolism on in vitro maturation of bovine cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs). The results showed that only glucose metabolism was crucial to oocyte development, as inhibition of glucose decreased embryo culture efficiency. Different responses to inhibition were observed in cumulus cells, with upregulation of ketone body metabolism suggesting unsuccessful attempts to switch to lipid consumption. Treatment with etomoxir did not affect embryo development, indicating undisturbed metabolism in cumulus cells.

Summary: The efficacy of dibutyryl-cAMP and roscovitine as meiotic inhibitors during in vitro maturation of vitrified porcine oocytes was compared. Roscovitine was more effective in preventing premature meiosis, but compromised subsequent embryo development, while dibutyryl-cAMP improved blastocyst development.

Summary: Accumulating evidence shows the connection between arsenic exposure and mitochondrial dysfunction-induced reproductive toxicology. This study found that GSH supplementation effectively ameliorated meiotic defects of ovine oocytes exposed to NaAsO2, showcasing improved reproductive capacities and inhibited cellular damage. Further exploration into GSH applications in livestock affected by arsenic exposure is warranted based on these findings.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of oocyte collection method (follicular aspiration vs slicing) and the addition of Insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) to the maturation medium on in vitro maturation (IVM) of oocytes. The results showed that follicular aspiration led to lower degeneration rates and IGF-I increased the percentages of MII oocytes and decreased the degeneration rates. IGF-I also improved the quality of MII matured oocytes.

Summary: The Cyclin D-CDK4/6 complex plays a crucial role in regulating the spindle assembly checkpoint (SAC) to prevent aneuploidy in meiosis I in oocytes. Inhibition of CDK4/6 kinases disrupts spindle assembly and chromosome alignment, while also accelerating meiotic progression by inactivating SAC, resulting in the production of aneuploid oocytes. These findings highlight a novel role for Cyclin D-CDK4/6 complex in controlling SAC in female meiosis I.

Summary: Mutations in connexin channels genes cause various human skin diseases, including KID syndrome. In a transgenic mouse model of KID syndrome, topical application of a hemichannel inhibitor reduced skin pathology associated with the syndrome. However, discontinuation of the inhibitor allowed disease progression, suggesting potential for therapeutic intervention targeting aberrant hemichannel activity in KID syndrome.

Summary: Deletion of SGPL1 leads to accumulation of S1P in the gonads, affecting the development of female and male germ cells through different signaling pathways. In the ovary, S1P inhibits granulosa cell activity and early follicle growth, while in the testis, it induces Leydig cell apoptosis and spermatogenesis arrest.

Summary: This study found that lithium can promote the activation of primordial follicles in mice and humans through the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. Lithium achieves its promotion effect by promoting pre-granulosa cell proliferation and increasing phosphorylated Akt levels. These results are of great significance for the development of new drugs for the treatment of POI.

Summary: This study reveals the molecular mechanism of the movement of mouse spermatozoa out of the isthmic reservoir in preparation for fertilization. It involves the expression of TGFB1, NPPC, and TGF-beta signaling in cumulus cells and ampullary epithelial cells. Oocyte-dependent and cumulus cell-derived TGFB1 plays a critical role in promoting sperm migration in the oviduct and subsequent fertilization.

Summary: Porcine spermatozoa are stored in the oviductal isthmus after natural mating, and the number of spermatozoa is increased in the oviductal ampulla when the mature cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs) are transferred into the ampulla. The study found that natriuretic peptide type C (NPPC) and its receptor natriuretic peptide receptor 2 (NPR2) play a role in sperm release from oviduct istsmic cells. The mature COCs promote NPPC expression in the ampulla through TGF-beta signaling.
