Summary: The use of BH intermediates as derivatization reagents significantly improves the tolerance to interference from transition metal ions in the generation of SbH3 and BiH3, and shows high tolerance in a wide range of acidity. The method has been successfully applied to the determination of Sb and Bi in complex samples, providing further understanding of the chemical behavior of borohydrides.

Summary: This publication presents the limitations of using a standardized method for determining total arsenic in water samples with various organoarsenic compounds. The study focuses on aqueous solutions of different organoarsenic compounds, such as dimethylarsinic acid, phenylarsonic acid, and p-arsanilic acid, as well as their mixtures. It was found that the percentage arsenic concentration determined by hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry depends on the structure of the organoarsenic compound. Determining the presence of arsenic in water samples containing different inorganic and organic forms of arsenic species using the hydride generation method is challenging.

Summary: The mechanisms controlling the generation of PbH4 in the reaction of Pb(II) with NaBH4 were investigated, with and without the presence of K3Fe(CN)6. PbH4 was identified for the first time using gas chromatographic mass spectrometry. It was found that without the additive, Pb(II) is converted to solid species and no volatile lead species can be detected. In the presence of K3Fe(CN)6, PbH4 is formed by the direct transfer of hydride from borane to lead atoms.
