In this study, eight strains of B. bifidum with potential for relieving CD symptoms were screened and CJ238 strain was found to prevent acute colitis in mice. Moreover, heat-killed B. bifidum cells also protected mice against acute colitis.

Summary: The study aimed to develop a pre-pubertal model of acute colitis and evaluate the use of magnetic resonance colonography in assessing inflammation, as well as to assess the anti-inflammatory effects of a diet supplemented with transforming growth factor beta 2. The results showed that the TNBS-induced colitis model exhibited typical features of acute colitis, but treatment with MODULEN-IBD (R) did not reduce inflammation signs, and there were no significant differences in inflammatory marker expression among the study groups.

Summary: Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are chronic gastrointestinal diseases that greatly impact health and quality of life. current therapies do not provide a complete and permanent cure. This study investigated the effects of soluble protein hydrolysate (SPH) on gastrointestinal injury in a mouse model of colitis. The results showed that SPH treatment reduced disease activity index, colon tissue injury, and inflammatory cytokines, while increasing anti-inflammatory cytokines and anti-oxidative gene expression. These findings suggest that SPH may be a potential dietary intervention for IBD management.

Summary: Specific strains of Bifidobacterium bifidum have anti-inflammatory effects and can ameliorate colonic damage and inflammation in TNBS-induced chronic colitis models. These strains also rebalance colonic metabolism and promote Treg cell differentiation and intestinal barrier restoration. All living B. bifidum strains restore the disrupted gut microbiota caused by TNBS. Heat-killed FJSWX19M5 also exhibits a relief effect on colitis-related symptoms.

Summary: We established an animal model resembling human pouchitis by evaluating general status, fecal microbiota diversity, and expression of inflammatory markers. We found that the TNBS-induced model showed more stable weight changes and dysbacteriosis compared to the DSS-induced model. Summary: This study developed and characterized an inhalation solution of favipiravir at a concentration of 2 mg/mL for the treatment of patients with COVID-19. The solution showed superior stability in phosphate buffer saline (PBS) and demonstrated minimum toxicity and sufficient antiviral activity at a concentration of 2 mg/mL. The study suggests that the favipiravir solution prepared with PBS could be a suitable and promising inhalation formulation for pulmonary delivery in the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

Summary: The study investigated the role of peripherally administered neuropeptide W (NPW) in the modulation of gastric emptying. It was found that NPW delayed liquid emptying from the stomach, and this effect was reversed by CCK receptor antagonists or denervation of small diameter afferents. Moreover, NPW inhibited antrum contractility in the organ bath. These findings suggest that peripherally administered NPW regulates gastric motility through small diameter afferent neurons and CCK receptors, contributing to its central regulatory role in food intake and energy balance.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of lapatinib, an inhibitor of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), on the synthesis of matrix metalloproteinases in rheumatoid arthritis. The results show that lapatinib significantly suppresses the synthesis of matrix metalloproteinases, suggesting that inhibition of the EGFR pathway may be a promising option to prevent joint destruction in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.
