Summary: This study identified a QTL for sheath blight resistance in rice and further fine-mapped it to a specific region. Functional analysis suggested that this QTL might enhance resistance to sheath blight through the activation of secondary metabolites biosynthesis and ROS scavenging system. Field trials demonstrated that this QTL conferred stable resistance and significantly reduced yield losses. These findings will contribute to the isolation of the QTL and its utilization in rice breeding programs against sheath blight.

Summary: The incidence of adult-onset type 1 diabetes is lowest in Asian countries and highest in Nordic countries, with higher rates in men than women. It is unclear whether the incidence decreases with increasing age or changes over time. This study highlights the need to better distinguish type 1 diabetes from type 2 diabetes in adults to address the true burden of type 1 diabetes in adults.

Summary: This study identified major quantitative trait loci (QTL) regions on linkage group 5 and another QTL on LG2 that are associated with Ascochyta lentis resistance in lentils. The QTL regions contain putative candidate genes potentially involved in defense responses to fungal infection, which could aid in marker-assisted resistance selection in lentil breeding programs.

Summary: This study conducted a large-scale field trial on the progeny of Salix suchowensis and analyzed the genetic factors underlying plant growth. The results showed that stem height and ground diameter were controlled by four quantitative trait loci, with two of them exerting a pleiotropic effect. The pleiotropic effect was found to result from the co-localization of genes with independent effects on stem height and ground diameter. Furthermore, the study revealed that height and circumference growth involve different tissue activities.

Summary: Rice direct seeding is an important technology that can save labor and water, conserve environmental resources, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This study identified key genes associated with mesocotyl elongation in rice using a mapping population and detected multiple quantitative trait loci (QTLs) across different chromosomes. The investigation also identified a specific gene, LOC_Os03g50550, as a strong candidate for controlling mesocotyl elongation. These findings contribute to our understanding of the genetic mechanisms underlying rice's mesocotyl elongation and can help accelerate breeding programs for direct-seeded rice varieties.

Summary: This study identified numerous QTLs and candidate genes associated with yield-related traits in cotton through phenotype data analysis and genetic analysis under multiple field environments. LP and SI were identified as more suitable traits for genetic improvement, while GN and BW had lower heritability estimates. Additionally, NET genes related to fiber development stages and stable QTL regions were discovered, providing insights into the regulatory mechanisms of yield components in cotton.

Summary: Macrophages play important roles in immune response, tissue homeostasis, and disease development. FoxO1, a member of the forkhead box transcription factor family, regulates macrophage functions including phagocytosis, migration, differentiation, and inflammatory activation. Macrophages also reciprocally modulate FoxO1 activity through post-translational modifications.

Summary: Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a chronic autoimmune disorder caused by a breakdown of self-tolerance and unrestrained immune response against beta cells. Pancreatic draining lymph nodes (PLNs) play a crucial role in amplifying the immune response and affecting T1D progression. Intervention strategies for T1D should focus on cutting off harmful signals, modulating immune activation in PLNs, and blocking the detrimental effects of PLNs on pancreatic islets.

Summary: Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV) is a tick-borne bunyavirus with a high fatality rate. C-C motif chemokine receptor 2 (CCR2) was identified as the host receptor for SFTSV, and its knockout reduced viral binding and infection. CCR2 enhanced SFTSV binding through direct binding to SFTSV glycoprotein N (Gn), and individuals with higher CCR2 surface expression showed stronger SFTSV binding and replication. CCR2 is a potential target for developing anti-SFTSV therapeutics.
