Summary: Low-temperature C2/c and high-temperature P321 modifications of SmxSc4-x(BO3)(4) solid solutions were successfully grown using LiBO2-LiF flux, exhibiting typical luminescent properties for Sm3+ crystals. Characterized by IR and Raman spectroscopy, the trigonal modification showed a three times higher SHG intensity compared to KDP, indicating a high potential for various NLO applications.

Summary: Outstanding UV and DUV birefringent crystals are crucial in advanced optical instruments for controlling polarized light. By synthesizing rare-earth borates Li3La2(BO3)(3) and Li1.75Na1.25La2(BO3)(3) with specific structural features, a larger birefringence was achieved compared to Na3La2(BO3)(3), leading to the potential application of these crystals as DUV birefringent crystals.

Summary: In this study, we demonstrate the first sub-40 fs soliton pulse generation from a diode-pumped Yb:Sr3Y2(BO3)(4) laser passively mode-locked by a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror. Pulses as short as 38 fs at a central wavelength of 1051.7 nm were achieved with high average output power and optical efficiency.

Summary: Eu3+-activated luminous materials have important applications in WLEDs and optical temperature sensors. However, most Eu3+-activated phosphors have problems such as low thermal quenching temperature and quantum efficiency. In this study, a series of Ba3Eu2(BO3)4: xF (BEB: xF) (x = 0-0.7) phosphors with high quantum efficiency and excellent thermal stability were reported. These newly developed red phosphors have outstanding quantum efficiency under similar excitation, and have potential performance in WLEDs. Additionally, a highly sensitive non-contacted optical thermometer was designed using BEB: xF phosphors, providing a new way for dual-functional applications.

Summary: Ba3Y2-xErx(BO3)(4) (x = 0.01, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, 0.2, 0.25, 0.3) phosphors were synthesized by crystallization from a melt. The crystal structure of Ba3Y2(BO3)(4) was determined through X-ray diffraction and showed an orthorhombic structure with specific unit cell parameters. The thermal behavior and luminescence properties of Ba3Y2(BO3)(4) doped with Er ions were also studied, indicating the absence of structural changes. The x = 0.1 sample exhibited the highest luminescence intensity.

Summary: RBO3 - ScBO3 diagrams (R = La, Pr and Nd) were investigated using solid state synthesis and DSC methods. Solid solutions based on RSc3(BO3)(4), RBO3, and ScBO3 were identified. Borates containing Pr and Nd exhibited characteristic luminescence in the red/IR range and the luminescence intensity depended on the fluorophore concentration. Additionally, grown PrSc3(BO3)(4) crystals showed 1.85 times higher second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency compared to KDP when irradiated with Nd:YAG laser, indicating their potential for nonlinear optical applications.
